Bathurst Cup in Caitlyn's Keeping

IT was slim pickings for rival trainers at a wet and windy Bathurst on Friday night after Charmaine Roberts claimed a winning treble on the program, headed by Caitlyn Keeping's dominant Ladbrokes Bathurst Gold Cup (520m) victory at listed level.

Qualifying fastest for the $15,000 to-the-winner decider, the daughter of Fabregas and Naomi Keeping gave nothing else a look in, leading all-the-way to score by 2 ¼ lengths in a smart 29.91 over Double Up Dee for Paul Braddon.

Friday night's Bathurst Cup success was Caitlyn Keeping's 19th victory from 40 starts, the Bathurst Cup trophy sitting nicely beside her Group 2 Black Top success which she claimed in emphatic fashion at Ladbrokes Gardens last September.

Roberts and partner Shayne Stiff will now embark on an Australian Cup campaign with their star galloper, with heats of the Group 1 feature to be staged at The Meadows on Saturday week (February 23).

On a red letter night for the Dubbo conditioners, Madeline Keeping, a litter-sister to Caitlyn Keeping, took out the Bill Kennerson Memorial (307m) in a flying 17.66, while Bolt Keeping, an older half-brother (Kiowa Mon Manny), landed the Lord Mayor's Cup (450m) in 25.93.

With a cool $6,600 on the offing to winning connections, a strong field of maidens was assembled for the Bathurst GBOTA Life Members Maiden (520m), won by Alliteration for Ashley Dwyer.

Scoring in 30.19, the son of Barcia Bale and Sizzling Osti joins litter-sister Massimo Osti as a feature maiden victor, winner of the Les Thompson Memorial Maiden Final (520m) at Nowra last month.
