GRAHAM Dixon celebrated his biggest win as a trainer on Monday when his bonnie bitch  Bogan Villa claimed a last stride victory in the time-honoured Bathurst RSL Soldiers Saddle Final (520m).

Heading into the $10,000 to-the-winner event on the back of slick heat and semi-final victories, Dixon aired his confidence leading into Monday's Soldiers Saddle finale, telling the Recorder last week – "she's a bit underrated in my eyes, I give her a real good chance on Monday."

Trailing expected pacemaker Vansittart for almost the entirety of the 520m journey, Bogan Villa, a daughter of Spring Gun and top producer Agni, stuck her head out right on the line in a thrilling finish, securing a 30.11 nose victory in a photo-finish many had going the other way until the number went up.

Involved in the industry for 22 years, breeding, rearing and breaking-in all his own stock, Dixon has been enjoying plenty of success in recent years from progeny out of his outstanding producer Agni, dam of Bogan Villa as well as recent Goulburn Cup placegetter Bogan Doonie, trained by Neil Staines, and a cast of other top performers.

"Her (Agni) two litters to race by Barcia Bale and Spring Gun have won over 80 races now," said Dixon.

"I've got a litter to Buck Fever that are 19 months taking some time to come to hand and then there is a litter of seven to Fernando Bale that are 11 months and just recently she had her final litter to Fabregas but would you believe it had just the one (pup)!

"I think the kindest way to describe her pups is that they can be a bit different. You can't have too many of them at any the one time or they'll send you crazy but she's just been a wonderful producer. I say to people it's almost like they have brain damage – in a good way, of course, they can be a bit to handle."
