Dynamo's ‘Magic' Maiden Win

LOCHINVAR Dynamo will start a pronounced favourite for Friday afternoon's Ladbrokes Red Dog Maiden Final (515m) at Ladbrokes Gardens following the son of Magic Sprite's breathtaking heat victory at the weekend.

Looking every bit the dog to beat for the $5,300 to-the-winner finale on the strength of his sizzling 29.57 heat romp on Saturday night, the Robert Smith-trained Lochinvar Dynamo has drawn box four this Friday and will start rock bottom odds, following the early scratchings of talented litter-brothers Katoby and Pop's Paradise for Daniel Flanagan.

Posting remarkable splits for a maiden galloper of 4.91 and 17.30 en route to his six length victory in best of night figures, Lochinvar Dynamo was lining up for his third start after cutting his teeth in the opening two rounds of last month's lucrative maiden series at Lismore over the 420m.

Just two heats for the series were run and won at the weekend, owing to a plethora of feature maiden events being conducted throughout NSW at the current time, the situation dubbed an anomaly in programming, exacerbated at a time when nominations for maidens is at a premium.

As well as the $5,300 to-the-winner Red Dog Final at Ladbrokes Gardens this Friday, Bulli will host a straight out $3,430 to-the-winner maiden over the 472m on Saturday night, with heats scrapped following a lack of nominations.

These events are being staged on the back of the $5,000 to-the-winner Les Thompson Memorial Maiden Final at Nowra on Monday, won in narrow fashion by Massimo Osti, while at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night, two heats are programmed of a 520m maiden series, where connections of next week's winner will also take home $5,000.

While it's fantastic that there are so many opportunities for connections of maiden gallopers to secure significant prizemoney to begin their careers, for these events to be programmed at the same time suggests a better approach to scheduling could be adopted to ensure a more desirable outcome for participants.
