Larry And Jim Will Have Barnes Cheering In Egg

DENNIS Barnes will be at Dubbo on Saturday night but come late in the night he will have his focus glued to Wentworth Park for the Golden Easter Egg.

DENNIS Barnes will be at Dubbo on Saturday night with a couple of runners, but come late in the night he will have his focus glued to Wentworth Park for the Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg Final (520m).

Dennis bred, trained, and then sold both Nangar Jim (Aston Dee Bee-Nangar Silk) and Nangar Larry (Shima Shine-Nangar Diva) which will come out of the five and seven respectively in the rich $350,000-to-the-winner final.

“It doesn't matter if we have sold them or not, we still make sure we watch all the dogs we have bred and it is exciting they have made the Egg final,” said Dennis.

Dennis laments he has never had a finalist in the Egg.

“We've got to the semis, but that's about it,” he said.

“But good luck to them all, Joe (McFadyen) with Nangar Jim and Andy and Jodie (Lord) with Nangar Larry.

“The money was alright for both of them so we sold.

“Both of them were always good dogs and these days there is not much between them.”

Amazingly, Jim and Larry have been following each other around NSW in feature races.

Larry won the Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup with Jim second.

Jim, already a Maitland Cup hero, won the Group 3 Temora Cup with Larry fourth.

Jim was second in the Group 3 Goulburn Cup with Larry eighth.

And on Saturday night they clash again in the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg.

Dennis admits to being a passionate Sydney Roosters rugby league fan.

But, despite that, he will be happy to see Melbourne Storm great Ryan Papenhuyzen land the Easter Egg with Nangar Larry.

“I sold the dog to Andy (Lord) and was unaware who bought him,” said Dennis.

The Roosters and the Storm clash in Sydney on Thursday night, so there is every chance Ryan will stay to be at Wentworth Park for the Egg final.

Larry and Jim are from the famous Miss Fancy damline that has been proving the Barnes family with great race dogs for decades.

Jim's second mother All Too Fancy and Larry's third mother Little Bit Fancy are both daughters of Sweet Fancy.
