Mackinaw Peach's Sapphire Claims No Laughing Matter

GEORGE Farrugia and his mate Wade Gallagher reckon they could soon be running out of those “special” names they have been coming up with for years.

GEORGE Farrugia and his mate Wade Gallagher reckon they could soon be running out of those "special" names they have been coming up with for years.

On Thursday night, George and Wade will be cheering home Mackinaw Peach in the Group 1 Sapphire Crown (515m) at Sandown Park.

The daughter of Shima Shine and Mepunga Molly, a litter sister to G1 Silver Chief winner Mepunga Shine, was an upset $21 winner of her heat of the Sapphire Crown.

FIELDS AND FORM SANDOWN PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

Chasing her home were star race bitches Lakeview Emily and Mackenna. Jeff Britton trains the bitch for George and Wade.

George and Wade are "massive fans" of the legendary Seinfeld TV series.

So much so that they call themselves the Kramerica Syndicate in reference to the great Seinfeld character Kramer.

"Mackinaw Peach is one of the funniest episodes of Seinfeld where Kramer is raving about the new season of peaches, the Mackinaw, and tries to get Jerry to sample one," said George.

"We've been naming many of our dogs after Seinfeld references for about 10 years now.

"We had Scofflaw, a Silver Chief finalist, who was named after another Seinfeld episode.

"Some of the names we have come up with have been way out there, but Seinfeld fans will know them.

"But, we have also noticed others have been using Seinfeld terms as well to name their dogs.

"And, we've been knocked back for a few. Seinfeld fans will know why sponge worthy was knocked back."

Of Mackinaw Peach's Group 1 chances on Thursday night, George believes she is facing a tough task.

"The red (Cruising Debbie) looks the one to beat," he said. "Our bitch is a hit and miss beginner and she will be long odds again.

"Being a sister to Mepunga Shine and from Mepunga Molly who has also produced Korda and Multi Matt, Mackinaw Peach deserves to be bred with.

"Wade wants to put her to the US dog Need My Moneynow."

Of the fixation George and Wade have for Seinfeld, he admits he is a regular at Seinfeld trivia nights.

"We back ourselves at these nights to know just what we need to know about Seinfeld."

Queenslanders and admitted Seinfeld fanatics, Mark Saal and Mick Zammit, are willing to pit themselves against George and Wade.
