Patience Pays With Brilliant Vince Curry Heat Winner

ADAM Mcintosh is nothing if not patient and that was evident when Elisheba brilliantly won a heat of the Group 3 Vince Curry Maiden (520m) at Ipswich on Saturday night.

By My Redeemer out of Lilly Sur Seine and a half-sister to star gallopers Sequana, Stinger Noir etc, Elisheba ran a flying 30.49 to win the heat by seven and a quarter lengths over the favourite Canya Shelly.

“I've had her since April last year and have had feet issues with her,” said Adam.

“As Bart Cummings would always say, you need to have patience in racing but no one seems to have it.”

The feet issues forced Adam to have stitches in two of her feet.

He had her right but it happened in one of the feet again and it needed more stitching.

“She was a bit timid when I first got her, but the older she has got and the more I do with her, the more confidence she is getting,” he said.

“In fact, she is getting better and better day after day.

“Two months ago she could only run 21 seconds up Capalaba, now she runs 20.20.

“I gave her a post to post at Ipswich and she went 25.09 but the best part of that trial was her run home of 11.75.

“She had a box to box at Ipswich last Monday to prep her for the heat and went great.

“I thought she was capable of running 30.70 or 30.60, but to run 30.49 was great and a bit of a surprise.”

Elisheba goes into next week's semis with Adam hoping for an inside draw again.

“You never know what young dogs are going to do in these sorts of races,” he said.

“She needs more experience and further confidence, but she is so calm and relaxed and a great traveller.

“I like her and her future.”

Tarquin Neal's Hara's Boots reeled off a 30.46 the quickest of the Vince Curry heats.

The Fernando Bale-Hara's Skylah dog won by two lengths over Sirius Sandy.
