A blockbuster staying event headlines Wednesday night’s return to racing at Wentworth Park with betting headed by Poco Dorado, taking her place off a near record winning run at Richmond on Friday night.

A blockbuster staying event headlines Wednesday night's return to racing at Wentworth Park with betting headed by Poco Dorado, taking her place off a near record winning run at Richmond on Friday night.

Going within 1/100th of Blue Lorian's seven-year old 41.66 Richmond track record for the 717 metres, posting a sensational 41.67 scoring by a widening 8 ½ lengths, Poco Dorado returns to Wentworth Park on Wednesday looking to maintain her unblemished record at the distance, winning at each of her three 720m assignments.

The NSW National Distance representative sets up an intriguing contest with top galloper Lochinvar Hugo who has returned to peak form for trainer Robert Smith in recent weeks, the son of Barcia Bale winning his last three outings, extending his overall record to an amazing 30 wins from 46 starts.

Making Wednesday night's event all the more intriguing is that at Lochinvar Hugo's most recent win at Ladbrokes Gardens over the 715 metres on September 8, the Maitland 565m record holder lowered the colours of Poco Dorado who was well below her best at her debut at the track, finishing last.

Adding plenty of firepower to Wednesday night's affair is the appearance of star Queensland stayer Double Gee, the son of Dyna Double One making his Wentworth Park debut for trainer Selena Zammit in the six-dog clash.

Finishing in the placings in two recent Albion Park 600m engagements, Double Gee, Queensland's representative in the recent National Distance Championship at Sandown, will relish the rise back to 720m tonight and is considered one of the brighter staying prospects in training.

The main chances for the event is rounded out by Kim Hyde's hugely talented Kihael Road, the powerhouse galloper yet to miss a place in five efforts at the Wenty 720 metres, his PB at the track of 42.22 suggesting he's right in the mix with luck in transit from box eight.

The event is race four on the program – set to go at 8.05 ESTD.
