Curry Caps Off Memorable Week For Mcintosh

TRAINER Adam Mcintosh was planning a Sunday lunch with his wife Gail, a catch-up after not having seen her for three days and for good reason.

ADAM Mcintosh was planning a Sunday lunch with his wife Gail, a catch-up after not having seen her for three days.

Gail is a care worker and her shifts have meant she missed seeing her husband since Thursday afternoon. Adam and Gail have much to talk about, much to celebrate.

Since Thursday, Adam has won the Listed Golden Oldies at Albion Park with Inner Tea Cup that night and on Saturday night the time honoured Group 3 Vince Curry Maiden with Elisheba.

Gail texted her husband and demanded a Sunday breakfast … “in Paris”.

Inner Tea Cup, a bitch retired as a house pet some months ago, gave Adam his first Listed victory.

Elisheba, a bitch he has nursed for months through feet issues, then gave Adam his first Group winner at his first Group finalist.

“I'm still going to work today for a few hours,” said Adam. “And I have to get to the hospital at some time for a tetanus shot after stepping on a screw during the week.

“But Gail and I will have lunch and a chance to celebrate today. There have been a lot of sacrifices with the family along the way to keep doing the dogs.

“This makes it all worthwhile.”

Adam, 50, was in greyhound racing as a teenager but only took up training again in his late 30s.

“I have to thank super dog men who have been my guiding light for so long,” he said.

“Blokes like Jason and Gee Gee. They know who they are. They are super dog men but even better blokes.

“And, for many years we lived across the road from Syd Norris a legend among dog men and he and I went everywhere. I will go over and see him some time soon. He hasn't been in the best of health.”

Of the Vince Curry win, Adam admits he struggled to keep an eye on the hugely talented My Redeemer bitch in running.

“I wear glasses and over the back I saw her in third with a bit to do,” he said.

“I had taken three of our daughters and our son to the track with me.

“A gap opened up for her on the home turn and I could not tell what was happening. The TV behind the boxes is delayed.

“But, then I heard a young girl screaming and I knew that scream was from one of our daughters and I knew Elisheba had won.”

That victory unleashed an avalanche of congratulations.

“I was still getting phone calls and texts at midnight,” said Adam.

“A bunch of mates were at a party at the Sandgate Aussie Rules Club and they all watched the race and were ringing me at midnight to congratulate.”

The victory proved to Adam and owner Bruce Wood that the bitch is not a one dimensional sprinter who needs to lead to win.

“I will catch up with Bruce during the week and we will map out plans for her future,” said Adam. “I suppose we will come away from that meeting with more plans than a wanted man.”

His first Group victory has come not as a surprise but a feeling by Sunday morning he still could not explain.

“It is hard to put into words,” he said. “People say it hasn't sunk in yet and that is the feeling I have.

“I don't know how blokes like Chris Waller handle the pressure of a horse like Winx going for four Cox Plates.”

Elisheba is a daughter of My Redeemer and the highly successful broodbitch Lilly Sur Seine the dam of Sequana, Stinger Noir, No Easy Beat, Made In America etc.

It is the famed direct damline of legends like Flying Amy and Tenthill Doll.
