Wenty Park Gets Tick Of Approval As Egg Looms

GBOTA boss Daniel Weizman has moved to assure trainers that the Wentworth Park surface will be in prime order for the Golden Easter Egg.

GBOTA boss Daniel Weizman has moved to assure participants that the Wentworth Park surface will be in prime order for the fast approaching Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg Carnival.

The declaration comes on the back of a fortnight of uncharacteristically high injuries at the famed Glebe circuit, the catalyst for GBOTA in conjunction with GRNSW and GWIC to investigate the issue with the utmost scrutiny.

"Yes, we've had some unfortunately high weeks with injuries but I can hand on heart say the track is in as good a condition as it's been for years," Weizman said.

"Prior to mid-February after the introduction of the double arm lure the track injury rate (at Wentworth Park) was at an all time low.

"Our staff is pouring in hours day and night and we will continue to work feverishly to ensure the surface is the best it can be as we lead up to the Golden Easter Egg Carnival.

"Just this morning we had an already scheduled deep harrow and a top dress hence why we aren't trialling tonight (Tuesday).

"I've been in constant dialogue with GWIC Stewards and they've concurred that the condition of the track surface is complying with all their benchmarks.

The Wentworth Park surface has been given the tick of approval ahead of the Golden Easter Egg Carnival

"When you get injuries like we have you are always looking at what we can improve and that's no different this time round."

Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) Chief Steward Troy Vassallo supported Weizman's comments.

"The track surface at Wentworth Park is as good as it's been in my 18 months in the job," Vassallo said.

"And that's a position backed up by facts, supported by the penetrometer tests and extensive surface profiling we carry out.

"Since the change in curators we've seen a significant improvement in the track and I'd be more than comfortable in saying it's in the safest condition I've seen it in my time."

With no less than six feature events slated for decision, the fast approaching Golden Easter Egg Carnival promises to be one of the best on record.

The Carnival launches with heats of the $350,000-to-the-winner Golden Easter Egg on March 30 before a smorgasbord of group racing action is staged on Saturday, April 13.
