Will Faces Bonus Series Acid Test

RESPECTED Burnie trainer Allan Clark will be hoping for solid improvement at Hobart Racecourse when promising talent Call Me Will lines up from box eight in this Thursday's Tasbred Bonus Series Final over 461 metres.

Having his tenth start at Hobart last Thursday in his heat, after some previous smart performances, the son of Sulzanti and Break Even justified his solid support off the red box when settling midfield before powering late to score a narrow win from Feel The Noise.

Running 26.11, the black sprinter scored his sixth win from 15 starts for breeder Simon Milgate.

"Call Me Will is a nice pup – hoping he can improve somewhat with time," Clark said.

"He can run that's for sure but his box manners on Thursday were a let down which made him work even harder. The main thing I like to see with any pups is to come through a race sound and perform well and this litter keep showing promise with experience."

Whelped in 2016, Call Me Will is from Simon Milgate's top-local bred producer Break Even, a strong bitch who raced on 40 occasions for 11 wins and 13 minor placings, including wins on all three tracks in Tassie. She was also a finalist to I'm A Fencer in the 2011 Illingworth Classic Final at Launceston.

Her first litter to Kinloch Brae produced group winning Golden Easter Egg runner-up Brad Hill Billy, winner of 35 from 94 starts.

Allan prepared the black chaser early on for six great wins and victory in the Group 2 Launceston Cup of 2015 before switching to the mainland.

Break Even is a full sister to Greg and Gary Fahey's grand producer Dennes Point.

"Simon bred the litter and was looking to get them reared at the time and I did a deal with him and I owned half in five of the pups, from when I started to break them in at Devonport they looked pretty even but once they stepped to the boxes it was a different story," Clark detailed.

"This litter doesn't turn two until October so there should be improvement, but time will tell and I'm in no hurry with them. I've got hopes for a couple including Lily Lola, Thunder Punch, Clubber and Walla Wuti."

Call Me Will returns to Hobart chasing his third victory on the track and will jump out of box eight.

He comes up against the well-graded Butch Deverell-trained runner Dooper who returned to Hobart, notching up his third win on the track since March this year, posting a 26.21 victory in the first heat over Millie Magna to score a half-length.

The Fernando Bale chaser expected to start warm favourite off the red box in this well-graded final.

"Dooper on the inside is the obvious dog to beat and is running well now, my bloke (Call Me Will) has got a tough job ahead from out wide in box eight, I'm hoping he will time the start and cross them early and get enough on them to run a good race," Allan told.

The Tasbred Bonus Final is race five on Thursday night's eleven race card at Hobart.
