Boilover! 100/1 Outsider Wins Super Sprinters

THURSDAY night’s TAB Super Sprinters at Albion Park was billed as an epic two-dog battle between superstars Hooked On Scotch and Oh Mickey.

THURSDAY night's TAB Super Sprinters at Albion Park was billed as an epic two-dog battle between superstars Hooked On Scotch and Oh Mickey.

But the five-dog $17,500 to the winner event proved to be anything but with rank outsider Shakey Diesel claiming the race for trainer Peter O'Reilly at 100/1.

Yes, that's right 100/1.

Just six days ago, Shakey Diesel landed the Group 3 Rockhampton Cup in thrilling fashion, the 24th win of his career.

For trainer Peter O'Reilly, the group win at Rockhampton was much deserved for his honest toiler,  the winner of $135,000 in stakes carving out a hugely successful career for connections.

But as it turned out, the Rockhampton triumph took pride of place as a career highlight for only six days, with Shakey Diesel claiming the most unlikely of victories at Albion Park on Thursday night.

The
son of Shakey Jakey was meant to be just making up the numbers in the TAB sponsored Super Sprinters, his 100/1 quote in a five dog clash a clear reflection of that.

But it just so happened someone forgot to tell him.

With little separating group 1 winning superstars Hooked On Scotch and Oh Mickey in betting, the pair were expected to fight out the showcase event and further their claims for next week's Group 1 Brisbane Cup heats.

But after trailing the field in, Hooked On Scotch finishing fourth and Oh Mickey behind him, serious question marks now surround the pair in the lead up to next week's heats.

Shakey Diesel's boilover victory was recorded in a sluggish 29.94, the 75 start galloper scoring by a neck at the finish over a gallant Jasper The Jet.

Stinger Noir finished third another length away in a result that will surely lay claim to the boilover of 2020.

Earlier in the night, Canya Cruise rattled off another hugely impressive display to land the Motorhub Thunder Final (395m) in a cracking 22.35.

Displaying tremendous early dash for trainer Serena Lawrance, Canya Cruise staved off the fast finish of Federal Morgan to score by a length.

The other sprint feature, the TAB Lightning (331m), went the way of Charming Chaos for Tony Brett in 18.94.

The injury plagued chaser, which finished runner-up in last year's Ipswich Cup, ran down tearaway leader Magical Cyndie to claim a much deserved feature race win.
