Reid Has High Hopes Ahead Of Pop Northfield

MATHEW and Dennis Reid come to Casino on Thursday for the heats of the Pop Northfield Maiden Classic (411m) with high hopes.

THAT Reid, Mathew and Dennis, combination comes to Casino on Thursday for the heats of the time-honoured Pop Northfield Maiden (411m) with three home-bred youngsters for which they have high hopes.

Levi Lass, Latrell and Golden Sequel are from the Norm The Storm and Wenona Girl litter bred by the Reids.

They raced both the sire and dam, Norm The Storm being a group winner and high class Albion Park performer.

Wenona Girl (Bekim Bale-Kim Special) won just three races but is a sister to the Reid's luckless Deep Impact (13 wins, $40,000).

FIELDS & FORM FOR CASINO THURSDAY

“She cracked a shoulder as a pup and could never stay on the track,” said Dennis.

“But she eventually won three races for us in 11 starts. We know how good Deep Impact is, or should have been, so we were always going to breed with his sister.”

Dennis says none of the three Pop Northfield contenders are suited by the 411m, declaring they are already looking for 500 metre races.

“But, all of them are going good,” said Dennis.

“Levi Lass is  the best of them at this stage.”

The box draw has done the Reid trio no favours with Levi Lass in four, Latrell in seven and Golden Sequel in four also.

Dam Wenona Girl is on target to have her next mating to Albion Park record holder Sennachie.

“I could never believe how good the nature of Deep Impact and Wenona Girl is,” said Dennis.

“Amazing. And these pups can gallop.”

He reports Norm The Storm has only three litters on the ground and neighbour Alan Cameron has a litter of nine just broken in with huge reports.

CASINO leviathan Robert Cooke produces some of the very first progeny by Raw Ability to the racetrack when Cash Stack, Cash View, Cash Bandit and Cash Works appear in heats of the Pop Northfield.

Cooke looked after Raw Ability for great friend Anthony Azzopardi during the dog's trips to race at Albion Park and was so impressed by the dog he had to put a bitch to him.

That bitch is Cashpot (Smooth Fancy-Teddy's Jackpot) a litter sister to Cooke's Group 1 National Futurity winner Cash In Motion.

“Cashpot hurt her back in the paddock as a pup and only got to win one race,” said Robert.

“But, I felt she deserved a litter and this is it.”

Cooke was high in praise with the dogs in the litter, Stack, View and Bandit.

Like Dennis Reid, he says the litter will be much better when they get to 500m.

“Already their run home times are unbelievable,” he said.

“There is nothing between the three dogs, with the bitch a couple of lengths behind them.”

While he gives them all a fantastic chance of success on Thursday, he admits the Dave Brett Memorial at Albion Park in a month could be an ideal target over the more suitable 520 metres.
