Ennis: Job Ahead For Amron Boy In Thunder

JAMIE Ennis admits Amron Boy, the lone Victorian in Saturday night's Paws Of Thunder at Wentworth Park, "had a few issues" after his heat win.

JAMIE Ennis admits star galloper Amron Boy, the lone Victorian in Saturday night's Group 1 Paws Of Thunder final (520m) at Wentworth Park, “had a few issues” after his heat win last week.

The son of Zambora Brockie-Miami Fernando appeared slightly disappointing despite holding on to narrowly defeat Ibrox Wildfire in 29.85 in that heat.

French Martini was the quickest of the heats with a 29.45.

Amron Boy had the rails, led passing the catching pen but when it was thought he would zoom away and run special time, he battled to the line in the heat.

He had come off a special second to Wow She's Fast in The Phoenix at The Meadows and a 29.00 win at Sandown at his previous two starts.

Jamie's wife Brooke trains the dog.

“Yes, I was not happy with the performance,” admitted Jamie.

“He's been to the vet since he got home and we found a couple of little issues.”

Jamie said Amron Boy's trip to Wentworth Park had started on a “very hot day” in Melbourne and this did not help the dog's cause.

“He will improve this week but he has an ordinary box to overcome (the five),” he said.

“It's Group 1 racing and it's not on his home ground.

“Those Sydneysiders come up with the same scenario when they come to Melbourne for our big races.”

Ennis believes French Martini is boxed to win the final in the red.

It is also believed the Jodie and Andy Lord kennel is supremely confident of their superstar She's A Pearl grabbing another Group 1 victory.

She has the eight box and is unbeaten in five starts from that draw.
