Attard's Babe “A Good Thing” At Albion Park

VETERAN trainer Renald Attard reckons his veteran race bitch Belvedere Babe is "almost a good thing" when she lines up for start 124 at Albion Park tonight.

VETERAN trainer Renald Attard reckons his veteran race bitch Belvedere Babe is “almost a good thing” when she lines up for start 124 at Albion Park on Monday night.

The daughter of Spring Gun and Bogie Beltah, who Attard says is racing better now than ever, lines up in a 395m Masters from box two and is one of the better chances.

“I got her given to me a long time ago,” said Attard.

“Eventually I will breed with her because she is from a very good female family.

“But, she is an old marvel and just loves winning Masters races.”

So much so, that she has won 10 of them, eight in 2019 and already two in 2020.

“And, she was vying to be Albion Park greyhound of the year in 2019 but came on season when she was in front on the points score,” said Attard.

“She still finished third or fourth and missed a few months of the year.”

Belvedere Babe finished only sixth to Crazy Bella at Albion Park at her latest run a week ago but Attard said there were excuses for the loss.

“She tried to anticipate the start but ending up hitting her bead on the lid of the boxes,” he said. “It put her neck out. I've fixed that and she's rearing to go tonight.”

Attard says training Belvedere Babe is a pleasure.

“I do absolutely nothing with her,” he said.

“She goes out into a small paddock every morning for some exercise and if she wants to run around she can, but if not, we are happy with that. She never gets put up the straight.”
