Beast Unleashed Begins Stud Duties

THE freakishly talented Beast Unleashed is now at stud with the track record breaking son of Barcia Bale standing at Sires On Ice for $1650.

GREYHOUND racing fans were expecting something else when they first spotted a dog by the name of BEAST UNLEASHED debut at Richmond racetrack at Christmas time in 2017.

With a name like that, how could he fail?

He didn't!

Beast Unleashed, a son of champion sire Barcia Bale and superstar Don't Knocka Him's litter sister Little Miss Hap, proved himself on the racetrack with 10 electrifying wins and three placings from just 15 starts for $231,000 in stakes.

But, everyone who ever saw “The Beast” run knew there could have been so very much more.

Just ask trainer Peter Lagogiane the expectations he had for him.

Injuries, unfortunately, put paid to those hopes but not before he had stamped himself exactly what his name said he would be … a beast on the racetrack.

His victory in the Group 2 Launching Pad was something else.

Consider the greats that have won the race, and the many, many more who have not been able to do so and it proved Beast Unleashed was on the verge of greatness.

He then won his way to the final of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic, before sweeping through the Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup, scorching to a 28.90 track record in his heat and then winning the final, leading throughout, to down Group star She's Gifted … and many others.

It would be the final race start for Beast Unleashed.

Peter tried valiantly to get him back to the track but it was not to be.

But now, what racegoers have missed out on, broodbitches owners will now take advantage of.

There is no doubt “The Beast” has every credential to make it at stud.

By the champion sire of his time, from a bitch that came from a super litter which included a highly successful stud dog, and with Group victories and a track record on the racetrack … there is nothing else “The Beast” needs to have for success.

Broodbitch owners only have to check out the number of stud siring greats that have run a track record during their race career to know the credentials “The Beast” has includes one of the most important for stud success.

All 10 of the Barcia Bale-Little Miss Hap litter have been winners, including the classy All Inn Baz (14 wins, $63,000).

Little Miss Hap was a Lithgow, Bathurst and Bulli winner from just a handful of starts, but she came from a super litter.

Her littermates included G1 Easter Egg winner Don't Knocka Him (25 wins, $380,000), Knocka Down (11 wins, $43,000) and classy broodbitch Scissor Queen (20 wins, $32,000).

All eight of the litter were winners.

This is the famed damline of Queen Size. Little Miss Hap's mother Surf Queen was a litter sister to Made To Size, the former Albion Park track record holder and G1 Winter Carnival Cup victor.

Made To Size became a fine sire, but Don't Knocka Him has been a real success, a much underrated success in fact.

He is the sire of such Group stars as Mitcharlie Mia, Terra Tora, Sky Wave, Ella Enchanted, Riley Tokaam, Zipping Bruiser, Zipping Arnold, Over Here, Good Odds Kate etc etc etc.
Don't Knocka Him's best progeny come from bitches by a multitude of sires, with the Bombastic Shiraz line being strongest.

The Queen Size damline continues to toss up one racetrack star after another, the likes of Degani, Maurice Minor, Bernardo, Monster Fish, Queen Reen, the luckless Sulzanti (now at stud), Reviewer, Alberto etc etc.

Great sirelines generally keep churning out the very best stud dogs and “The Beast” is certainly from a great sireline through Barcia Bale, Go Wild Teddy, Head Honcho, Walkabout Sid to Brother Fox and ultimately to the legend of them all Temlee.

“The Beast” has a pedigree just waiting for a great diversity of bloodlines.

At just under 32kgs, he is the perfect size for a stud dog. Forget the giants of the breed, the 30kg to 35kg of the breed make the best studs.

So, what line will suit him at stud?

With the proliferation of daughters of Fernando Bale right around the country, “The Beast” is the perfect option for them.

First, he is by Barcia Bale and therein lies a very strong link to Fernando Bale.

Check out the pedigree of Group 1 stars, litter brothers Hecton Bale and Mossimo Bale (Fernando Bale-Searle Bale).

Their dam is bred identically to Barcia Bale, so putting Fernando bitches to “The Beast” will go a long way to recreating Hecton and Mossimo Bale.

But, the fact “The Beast” has Knocka Norris as his damsire is even more powerful when linking with daughters of Fernando Bale.

Check out the pedigree of G1 stars, litter brothers Poke The Bear and Out Of Range. They are by Fernando Bale and are bred on the cross of full relations Awesome Assassin and Goddess Of Fire.
This is exactly the cross to be picked up via a mating of daughters of Fernando to “The Beast”.

Monster Fish, placed twice at G2 level, is by Fernando Bale from Scissor Queen.

It's a no brainer to put daughters of Fernando to “The Beast”.

Little Miss Hap, dam of “The Beast”, has also produced a quality dog in her mating to Bekim Bale. Bold Opal won 15 races and $38,000.

Thus, daughters of Bekim Bale should also suit “The Beast”. These potential matings will bring in the famous littermates Princess Bale and Bartrim Bale. This pair have been combined successfully by the Wheeler family to produce near champion Dyna Chancer (a grandson of Barcia Bale).

AND, Bekim Bale has produced Group stars like Cactus Jack, Oscura and Size Does Matter (G2 Healesville Cup, multiple Group finalist) from the Queen Size damline.

Being a son of Barcia Bale, “The Beast” should also do exceptionally well when mated to daughters of Magic Sprite. Multiple Group stars have been bred on the Barcia Bale/Magic Sprite cross and it is working both ways.

Queensland GOTY and multiple G1 winner Fast Times is bred on this cross.

Take a look at Little Miss Hap's breeding career and you will also see she was mated to Magic Sprite to produce Diligent Miss (24 wins, $29,000).

It will make sense to put daughters of Magic Sprite to “The Beast”.

Knocka Norris, damsire of “The Beast”, has proven himself already as a damsire of great importance. The cross of his third dam Goddess Of Fire with her brother Awesome Assassin, is proven over and over again and will continue to be of great success in the future.

Leading stud dog Fabregas has a cross of Awesome Assassin in his direct damline.

And he has already crossed successfully with Knocka Norris to produce such Group stars as Falcon's Fury and Black Forge.

Fabregas has done exceptionally well with daughters of Made To Size to produce Snug, Fab Fit and Fab Dooley all high class gallopers.

Putting daughters of Fabregas to “The Beast” is also a no brainer.

Awesome Assassin can obviously be picked up strongly via his famous son Collision.

Having Surf Lorian as the sire of his second dam, brings in a number of outcross options for “The Beast”.

Surf Lorian, who boasts a saturation of Brother Fox in his pedigree, has naturally done exceptionally well when he has mated bitches with outcross lines.

This is proven via Degani (by KC And All from a daughter of Fear Zafonic) and Maurice Minor (by Cosmic Rumble a son of Spiral Nikita, from a daughter of Fear Zafonic and a half sister to Little Miss Hap).

There are plenty of daughters of Fear Zafonic around to link up with “The Beast” to recreate Degani (2nd G1 Silver Chief, finalist G1 Melb Cup) and his great littermates .

Which brings us to other options for “The Beast”.

As mentioned above, Don't Knocka Him has done exceptionally well when linked to Bombastic Shiraz and also his son Bit Chili especially the latter.

Again, the number of these bitches about are limitless.

To prove this even further, Barcia Bale's champion son Aston Dee Bee (G1 Melb Cup) is from a daughter of Bombastic Shiraz-Elite Oriental. Of course, Knocka Norris (damsire of “The Beast”) is a litter brother to Elite Oriental.

Also, Barcia Bale has sired a number of great gallopers that carry a cross of the litter brothers Hallucinate and Where's Pedro. This too can be a source of success for “The Beast” to mate bitches with up-close crosses of Where's Pedro in their dam.

Beast Unleashed is a real product of the very best of Aussie bloodlines. We need to go back five generations to find the first outcross influence in his pedigree. He has only one cross of Brett Lee (via a son) so “The Beast” can mate as many bitches as possible with Brett Lee coming via a DAUGHTER.

Token Prince is not found anywhere in the pedigree of “The Beast”. He too will be ideal for special links with the damline of Beast Unleashed via the ancestors in Knocka Norris.

This is how Group winning stars and track record breakers Unlawful Entry and Punch One Out are bred.

“The Beast” retires to stud with the reputation of one of the great sprinters of his time, but with a career most would say was unfulfilled because of injuries.

His stud career will almost certainly make him a success to fulfill that.
