Betting Preview: TAB Melbourne Cup Heats

RACE sponsor TAB is reporting some significant movement on some well supported runners in Friday night's Group 1 Melbourne Cup heats at Sandown Park.

But while there has been good money for a few runners it's the money that's not coming for a few key series chance that could prove most telling.

FIELDS AND FORM SANDOWN PARK FRIDAY NIGHT

Heat 1: Not a whole lot of activity on this heat and while Koblenz has been slightly easy – $1.35 to $1.40 – he is responsible for 65 percent of the money wagered. Jepara the next most popular and has been $14 into $11.

Heat 2: Little interest in Tommy Shelby, who has been $2.10 to $2.50. Barooga Smoke has been the most popular, with 43 percent of the hold, and has been $7.50 out to $8.50 (biggest bet so far was $450 at $8.50) to $6. Invictus Rising next most popular and has been $12 in to $8.

Heat 3: Not much interest in any of the three favs; Qwara Bale ($3.50 to $3.90), Wow She's Fast ($3.90 to $4.40) or Typhoon Sammy ($3.80 to $4.40). Weblec Jet ($12 to $7.50) responsible for the greatest hold, closely followed by Hadouken ($8.50 to $7).

Heat 4: Aston Rupee fans are keeping their powder dry and he's been $1.33 to $1.50. Fernando Bluey ($8.50 to $5) well-backed to cause an upset, while Lots Of Chatter has been a mover from $15 to $11.

Heat 5: Do It has been responsible for 46 percent of trade – biggest bet $800 at $2.90 – and has therefore been $2.90 to $2.50. Fernando Mick the next most popular and has been $8.50 in to $6.

Heat 6: Weblec Blazer has been the most popular of any runner engaged in the Melbourne Cup heats. Heat 6 has commanded more trade than any other race tomorrow night and Weblec Blazer has been responsible of 93 percent of money! Opened $4.80 (biggest bet at that price was $570) but now $2. Other bets include $600 at $3.90, $600 at $3.40, $1000 at $2.60, $1000 at $2.40.

Heat 7: Lakeview Walter easily the most popular here with 66 percent of trade, including a bet of $1400 at $3.50, and has been $3.70 to $3.10. McCooly's Lad next most popular, although easy, but good money for Gold Skulltula at a price, resulting in a tighten from $15 to $10.

Heat 8: Second-highest hold of any heat is this race, but little interest in Rebellious ($2.90 to $3). Lala Kiwi ($4 to $3.20) easily the most popular, attracting a tick over three-quarters of the money bet, including bets of $1000 at $4 and $1300 at $3.60. Jax Bale the second most popular, hence the tighten from $7.50 to $5.
