GUN sprinter Big Flood will be looking to make his first Group 1 final since his third in the 2017 Easter Egg after drawing box one in Thursday's Victorian State Sprint final (515m) at Sandown Park.

The black chaser had to work overtime in his heat victory, overcoming box eight and his rivals to score in 29.58 in his first race over 500 metres in over five months. If the son of Banjo Boy and Easy Baby runs in the top two, he will represent the Big V in August 24's National Spring final at Sandown Park – worth $75,000 to the winner.

The Seona Thompson-trained chaser has won all three of his previous exits from the box one, including a sizzling 23.56 at Bendigo in February this year. He is one of two chasers fro Thompson in Thursday's final after the brilliant Poke The Bear recorded Best of Night figures during his outstanding 29.31 heat win over the likes of Dyna Patty and Bernardo.

The son of Fernando Bale and Nicki Fields will have to overcome box five to qualify for the second Group 1 of his career.

Dyna Patty will be looking to continue her rich vein of form after drawing box three in Thursday's final. The brindle chaser has been in devastating form, going undefeated throughout the Group 1 Maturity series before a solid second behind Poke The Bear last start.
Dyna Patty, Poke The Bear, Lila Bale and Hasten Slowly will be looking to emulate their sire Fernando Bale, who won the National Sprint Championship back in 2015.
