Brilliant Benali Litter Eye More Group Race Magic

QUICK Smart on Saturday, Cash In  It and Fast Milkman on Monday, all winners, and with First Picked and Wheel And Go to come on Thursday night.

That's the story for Warrnambool breeder Noel Mugavin's star sire Benali, the ill-fated stud dog with one litter racing, the winners of 72 races and $776,000 in stakes, four of them already Group performers.

The Benali litter is out of Erelda Bale, a litter sister to champion Fanta Bale.

Quick Smart started the ball rolling on Saturday night at Cannington winning the Listed Paradise Street Trophy (600m) for Chris Halse in dazzling style.

Then, on Monday night at Albion Park, Tim Britton stepped out Cash It In to win a 600m in a flying 34.69, and Fast Milkman to win a 710m in 42.19.

Both will back up on Thursday night in the heats of the G1 Queensland Cup and littermates Wheel And Go and First Picked have both drawn favourably in box one.

Noel Mugavin bred and raced Benali (Barcia Bale-Born Ali) and saw him a Group winner and G1 finalist from a litter that also contained G1 Bold Trease winner Barcali.

“I had to give Benali his chance, especially because he ran 29.29 to win at Wentworth Park,” said Noel.

“But, unfortunately for me all his bloodlines are the only lines I have to breed with.”

Therein lies Noel's future with Benali who unfortunately died late last year.

“I have 10 straws still available and am willing to consider pup deals for those straws but with suitable bitches,” said Noel.

“I can't really put a price on the straws, but am open to approaches from breeders.”

Mugavin is amazed at the durability of the Benali-Erelda Bale litter.

“They are just two years and eight months and each of them has raced around 50 times and they are all going great and in Group races,” he said.

“But, that was Benali himself. And the chase is obvious.”

Mugavin, unfortunately, lost his dog Francis Benali from the Erelda Bale litter after having won seven races and $43,000 when he dislocated a hock in a race.

While the Benali semen is much sought after from astute breeders, Mugavin has just started an advertising campaign for Benali's half brother, Million Dollar Chase winner and G1 Topgun runner-up McInerney.

“All his test show him to be extremely fertile and we have already been approached by breeders wanting to use him,” said Noel.

“Benali has proven what a successful sireline it can produce, as well as being a dominant damline.”
