Brilliant Brothers To Trial At Sandown Wednesday

ZIPPING Zeek and Zipping Sultan will trial at Sandown this Wednesday as they ready for Thursday week’s heats of the lucrative Launching Pad series.

BRILLIANT litter brothers Zipping Zeek and Zipping Sultan will trial at Sandown Park this Wednesday as they ready for Thursday week's heats of the lucrative Launching Pad series.

The hugely talented sons of Zulu Zeus and Crafty Lady head into next week's heats off arguably career best performances, Zipping Sultan rattling off a remarkable 30.26 at Richmond on Friday night while 24 hours later Zipping Zeek stopped the clock in a sizzling 29.63 at Wentworth Park.

"They'll both trial 500 at Sandown on Wednesday morning but they'll go straight into the pen … not on the arm," trainer Jason Magri said.

Magri's precautionary measures are of course in response to the canine coronavirus outbreak gripping many kennels in Victoria.

“Zipping Zeek is already racing like he wants longer but when you can run 29.60 over 500 you wonder how much further he can go running that kind of time,” Magri added.

“He's a bull in a field and can make his own runs which I love about him.”

With interstate nominations currently suspended in Victoria, it's understood that Greyhound Racing Victoria will accept Launching Pad entries pending veterinary clearance.

But as one can imagine, the canine virus sweeping many kennels is beginning to play second fiddle to the novel outbreak in humans, with the landscape in the community changing almost by the hour.

A few weeks ago, entry into this year's Launching Pad series was considered the hottest ticket in town.

But with a number of leading kennels grappling with the fallout of the gastro outbreak, the turnout for next week's opening round remains unknown.

One chaser certain to be there is NSW youngster Nangar Rust, the son of Bella Infrared trialling at Sandown in a remarkable near record 28.95 on Sunday for Mick Hardman.

Peeling off a sensational run home of 10.30, Nangar Rust has thrust himself into the spotlight for next week's heats of a series that will shell out $420,000 in prize money.
