Brilliant Youngsters Set For St. Leger Showdown

THE Tassie racing spotlight turns to Hobart on Thursday night with the running of the M.A. Morgan St. Leger and Leeroy Rogue Laurels both over 461 metres.

The M.A. Morgan St. Leger has attracted a high-quality field for the all-male event, with boom sprinter Wynburn Sheean the $2.15 favourite from box six. 

Wynburn Sheean was impressive last Thursday in clocking a very slick 25.93 from box five.

If form reads true, this gun youngster will have to be at his absolute best to contend with some of Tassie's finest in the $5,310-to-the-winner feature, led by main rival Kintyre.

The Debbie Cannan-trained son of Barcia Bale, currently second favourite at $2.90, is drawn in box five where he is one from one over the track and distance.

Winner of five races overall for the 461 metres the black dog has won nine races from 23 career starts.

The other runner in contention is Savage Victor which is third favourite at $4 from box three.

A $5,310 prize is also on the line for the female sprinters in the Leeroy Rogue Laurels Final.

The Debbie Cannan-trained speedster Amy Cora is the $2.05 favourite jumping from box two.

Dilston trainer Pat Ryan has a big 24-hours ahead of him with former home-bred star Handsome Prince contesting the TAB Million Dollar Chase Final (520m) at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Litter siblings of the Sh Avatar x See Blue's Girl litter will be contesting both finals this Thursday.

Ryan is represented in the Laurels final by Splotched, a $2.80 second favourite, jumping from box three.

The brindle bitch has a personal best of 25.93 from one win in four starts for the track and distance.

Other prospects in Laurels feature include Magic Lea from box seven and Rachael from box six.

The Leeroy Rogue Laurels is race five (8.52pm) and M.A. Morgan St. Leger is race seven (9.37pm).
