BROTHERLY love was washed aside in Wednesday afternoon's Group 2 Great Chase Final (525m) at The Meadows with Simon Told Helen clinging on for a gripping victory over Who Told Stevie.

The hugely talented sons of Barcia Bale headed into the $47,000 to-the-winner final as the two to beat following pulsating semi-final victories last Wednesday afternoon.

Betting reflected that sentiment, with Simon Told Helen a $1.70 favourite while Who Told Stevie was quoted a $3.60 chance.

The box draw was kinder to Simon Told Helen who landed the checks, while Who Told Stevie had to negotiate the green.

Ultimately, that decided the race, with Simon Told Helen defeating a luckless Who Told Stevie by a neck.

In the lead up to Wednesday's finale, their group 1 winning trainer David Burnett told Recorder scribe Gerard Guthrie his prediction was that Simon Told Helen would lead before Who Told Stevie would get home over the top and win.

His prediction was nearly spot on.

In fact, Who Told Stevie went perilously close to leading early doors before the brothers got embroiled in a bumping duel heading out of the first bend. Simon Told Helen made use of the inside advantage to pinch a margin down the back before Who Told Stevie charged again late.

The 21-month-old siblings, by recently deceased super sire Barcia Bale out of Who Told Lindylu, have both started their careers in stunning fashion, with both now boasting five wins from seven career starts.

In the end, Simon Told Helen clung on to score by just over a head in Wednesday's Great Chase decider, defying his brother in the drive to the line. Huge futures await the star pairing.

Third was I'm Easy Boys for Ray Henness, another 3 ¼ lengths away.
