Cawbourne Roses Set For Magic Run In Cup

WHILE Chris O'brien believes Cawbourne Roses is in with a chance of winning the Incapacitated Cup, he is excited about her immediate future.

WHILE Nowra Hill trainer Chris O'brien believes kennel newcomer Cawbourne Roses is in with a great chance of winning Friday night's Incapacitated At Stud Final (520m) at Wentworth Park, he is equally as excited about her immediate future.

“I can't wait to get her to 600 metres and beyond,” said Chris today.

Cawbourne Roses, a Fernando Bale-Cawbourne Ruby litter sister to top stayer Cawbourne Magic, runs out of the red in the Incapacitated Final.

“Jason Carrozza shared in her ownership but bought his partner out and asked if I would give her a go,” said Chris.

“I jumped at the chance.”

Cawbourne Roses had started 29 times for seven wins and seven placings her wins coming at Wagga, The Meadows and Sandown and she had been placed to 700m.

Cawbourne Roses made her debut for Chris a winning one when running 30.15 in the Incapacitated heat on December 24.

“It was only four runners, but she got home really well in the last 100,” he said.

“And the rails is where she wants to be.”

He rates Jason Magri's Zambora Ted the hardest to beat in the final even though he has drawn the four.

“His form is great and he's won 15 races,” he said of Zambora Ted.

Immediate plans for Cawbourne Roses after she contests this final is to trial at Gosford with the Gold Cup heats over 603m coming up there on January 24.

“It is worth $25,000 and that 603 metres will really suit her,” said Chris.

“I haven't had a stayer for a while and am looking forward to her future.”

O'brien's classy bitch Mortified (Fernando Bale-Banjo Tifia) is on the comeback trail after a toe injury from her run at Wagga early in November put her on the sidelines.

She has raced 15 times for nine wins and $50,000 in stakes and has a career best of 29.63 around Wentworth Park.

“She is back trialling and going great,” said Chris.

“She is on target to run in the National Futurity series coming up in January.”
