Classic Win Tops Bernardo's 8 Winner Haul

WHILE Zara Marnie bounced back to her best winning Friday night's Floodfawn Classic (500m) at Traralgon, she was outshone by her own sire Bernardo.

Zara Marnie, raced by Darren Toogood and Peter Curtis, and trained by Des Douch, was one of eight winners by Bernardo from 12 races at Traralgon on Friday night.

Bernardo (KC And All-Surfonic) winners were: Guy For Rose (x Macy Lee), Cool Blue Star and Every Four Years (x Eye Will Reign), Dr Rodrigo (x Dr Cinnamon), Zara Marnie (x Tidelina), Cool Summer (x Summer Girl), Hierarchy (x Eau Rouge) and Zachary (x Zelemar Doll).

Darren Toogood said Zara Marnie was the subject of a $100,000 offer after she had run a length off the track record winning a Sale Maiden final at her second race start.

“We believe she can earn more than that during her race career,” said Darren.

The bitch has been through a short form slump after falling in the final of the G3 Easter Gift at Sandown in April. She had run 29.17 the fastest of the heats.

Bernardo is making a name for himself at stud with such stars as Aussie Secret and more recently Baby Jaycee.

Zara Marnie's dam Tidelina (Banjo Boy-Easy Baby) is a five-time winning litter sister to such stars as Big Flood (33 wins, $186,000) and Brueghelino (10 wins $71,000) now a top notch producer.

Also in that litter were Mars Rising and Petadale.

Plans for Zara Marnie could include the Group Maturity fast approaching at The Meadows.

BERNARDO AT STUD

“We were very happy for her to bounce back to her best at Traralgon,” said Darren.

“Des said he would now look at some of the big races coming up in Melbourne and a race like the Adelaide Cup could suit as well.”

The Bernardo-Tidelina litter is promising and Darren said Brughelino also has a litter by Bernardo.

Zara Marnie has also been a finalist in the Ballarat Oaks.
