THESE are the images which will have owners and trainers eagerly awaiting the start to this year's Coonamble long weekend carnival.

The Coonamble track in absolutely pristine condition.

"From what the locals are telling me the track has never been in better order," said event organiser Kevin Gordon.

"And it's hard to argue looking at these images in the middle of winter.

“Significant works were carried out two years ago and after missing last year's carnival to Covid, the club is really looking forward to getting this year underway."

It's just 80 days until the start of the famous October carnival which kicks off on Friday, October 1.

Four days of frenetic racing will follow, culminating in a monster day of finals action on Monday October 4.

The flagship event – the Ned Australian Whisky Gold Maiden (305m) – will for the first time carry a record first prize of $12,000.

"Trials are really starting to increase which all goes well for a big turnout this year," Gordon added.

"Accommodation in the town is all but taken as well so I urge anyone needing to make arrangements to do so quickly."

While the Ned Australian Whisky Gold Maiden is the signature event, a host of other feature races will be staged, catering for greyhounds of all grades and distances.

"The Coonamble Cup – supported by new sponsor Tvati – is a new addition to the calendar which we are looking forward to," Gordon added. “And the Garrard's Super Maiden has had a stakes increase also.”

The Coonamble Club is trialling at 9am on Sunday mornings but will also accommodate private trials wherever possible for travelling trainers.

"If you contact the club they will do whatever they can to assist with private trials," Gordon added.

In a boon for punters, the club has secured nine bookmakers to field at this year's carnival, ensuring a hive of activity in the betting ring.
