THE Hobart Thousand carnival goes into full swing this Thursday night with three heats of the Sky Racing Tasmanian Gold Cup being conducted in the lead up to what is an exciting month of top-class racing on the Apple Isle.

The Tasmanian Gold Cup is one of the biggest races on the Tassie racing calendar, with a cool $5,030 going to the winner of the series, both canine and trainer will be going on an elite honour roll that stretches back to 1969 when won by the Les Grunton-trained Summer Idol.

Just the first two placegetters and the two fastest thirds will go through to the final next week.

There is no Peco Can in the heats, but there are plenty of other quality performers lining up for a tilt at the big prize such as mainland raider Corykodi, Be Like Bill, Stop Line, Gold Lenny, High Treason, Bridwood Brianna and reigning Gold Cup winner, Two Bills.

Corykodi, from the kennels of Lauderdale trainer Eric Haldane, produced a scorching debut at Hobart last week running 25.98, the son of Paw Licking accounted for Hello Nugget and Two Bills, scoring by two lengths in the process.

Owned and bred by Queensland-based Claude Dacey, Corykodi made his career debut taking out the Pop Northfield Maiden at Casino which has launched this white & black chaser onto a stellar career path, winning 22 of 46 starts with prizemoney of $77,396.

Here is a look at the contenders in each of the three heats set down for decision this Thursday night.

Be Like Bill (2) is an in form chaser that produced his best career runs of late and looks the one to beat. Bridwood Brianna (4) is a smart bitch that looks to find her 25.65 PB over this distance. Long View Belle (3) veteran over this track/distance and demands respect.

Celtic Kid (7) is knocking on the door for a solid win – respected and must to watch.

Selections: 2 – 4 – 3 – 7

Tasmanian Gold Cup Heat 2

Exciting sprinter Stop Line (3) for trainer Jillian Stamford has well and truly announced his class in the sprinting ranks in recent months, winning 7 of his 11 career starts, with the majority recorded in blistering best of the meeting runs.

The St. Pierre x Topline Doove chaser is one for one over the track and distance, producing an eye-catching 25.82 off box seven. Gold Lenny (4) is the ‘warrior' who continues to find a win or two through his 98 career starts for owner/trainer Rodney Walker.

Double Explosion (2) and Posh Amber (7) are another two runners to follow.

Selections: 3 – 4 – 2 – 7

Tasmanian Gold Cup Heat 3

Corykodi (1) comes to Tasmania on the back of a recent Young Guns victory at Capalaba. A finalist to Del Rey in the Group 3 Gold Coast Cup shows he's right up to group class and he lapped up the wide open spaces at Hobart last Thursday.

Reigning Gold Cup winner Two Bills (3) is returning to defend his title for trainer Gavin Whitney. Racing at top level in his last eleven starts, the son of Spring Gun is yet to miss a placing and will be a dominate force to be reckoned with.

Devonport Cup winner High Treason (2) has been a great chaser for connections and his master trainer Ted Medhurst. The son of Barcia Bale has showed great strength on this track winning eight of 32 starts with a PB of 25.86.

Wille Win (6) and Hetti's Produce (7) to be considered in all trifectas and investments.
