Countdown On To Warragul St Leger

THE countdown is on to the Group 3 Warragul St. Leger series (460m) which gets underway with heats on Tuesday, August 7 before the rich finale is run and won on a bumper day of racing on Sunday, August 12.

Carrying a rich first prize of $25,000, the 2018 staging will see the event carry group 3 status for the first time, with Warragul GRC secretary-manager Adrian Scott expecting a big response from owners and trainers.
"The Warragul St Leger is a time-honoured event that's always been highly recongised with participants, particular in the Gippsland area," declared Scott.
"The club has worked very hard over the past 3-4 years to really re-establish the series and we are delighted that it will carry group 3 status in 2018 and look forward to some star chasers making their way to Warragul.
"The series was won last year by Jimmy Newob who went on to win the Horsham Cup and of course in 2016 the great Fanta Bale took out the event before going on to become one of the greatest of all time."
The main support race will be the President's Cup over the 680m for the stayers on what will be a big Sunday of racing for the Gippsland region.
