Dolly Dutton On Trial For Adelaide Cup Berth

A SLICK 30.66 trial in "blizzard conditions" has Sarah Monaghan confident Dolly Dutton can win at her Angle Park debut on Thursday night.

A SLICK 30.66 trial in “blizzard conditions” has owner Sarah Monaghan confident her bitch Dolly Dutton can win in a 530m 5th Grade on debut at Angle Park on Thursday night.

Dolly Dutton (Barcia Bale-Precious Sal) has drawn the three at Angle Park and she is on trial for a start in the G1 Adelaide Cup series next week.

Sarah's husband Andrew trains the bitch, but Sarah has the travelling duties.

FIELDS AND FORM ANGLE PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

“I took her to Angle Park two weeks ago on the night of the Derby and Oaks finals and she went 30.66 running into a blizzard,” she said.

“It was a very good trial and I was over the moon with it.

“By the time the Oaks and Derby came around, the wind had virtually stopped.”

Sarah and Andrew won the Adelaide Cup back in 2006 with Miss Spicy.

Sarah admitted she had hoped to get Dolly Dutton, winner of 12 of her 20 starts, into the Match Race series at Angle Park on Thursday night.

“Panama Pepper got the nod ahead of her because he's been a Group 1 dog in the past,” she said.

While her debut at Angle Park comes in a fifth grade, Dolly Dutton is facing tough opposition including Kirin Corby's G3 SA Oaks winner, the lightning quick early Where's Poppy.

Also in the race is last start Broken Hill MDC winner Kruger Lass for Bronwyn Welsh.

“It is a very good race,” said Sarah who will fly to Adelaide on Wednesday.

“She's a very good traveller so that will not be a problem for her.”

The Monaghans decided against a Million Dollar Chase campaign.

“The Adelaide series is just a few weeks, will more than likely not be as tough in the heats, and I really like Angle Park for her,” said Sarah.

“It reminds me so much of Ipswich and Dolly Dutton loves that track.”

The Monaghans rate Dolly Dutton the best they have had for some years and decided she deserved to chase Group 1 races.

“They don't come along like her very often so we have to give her a chance in the big races,” she said.

“She is trialling the house down.”
