‘Falling From Trees' Victorian Smashed In MDC

VICTORIAN sprinter MacKenna has been sensationally backed to win the Million Dollar Chase after trialling at Wentworth Park on Tuesday.

EXCITING Victorian sprinter MacKenna has been sensationally backed from $26 into $8 to win the Million Dollar Chase after a remarkable 29.32 first-look trial at Wentworth Park on Tuesday.

The daughter of Whiskey Riot and Alcyone won her way to the semi-finals through the Temora Regional qualifying when beating Royal Nangar in 25.41.

“We were hoping she could trial around 29.80 at her first look at Wentworth Park, especially after the long trip from where we live (Bagshot),” said trainer Michelle Carruthers today.

Michelle's partner Lee Moore took the bitch to Wentworth Park and both he and Michelle were expecting the bitch to “knock up” at her first 500m trial since winning at The Meadows way back on August 5.

“Lee said the guys running the trials kept saying to him throughout the trial that she was really flying,” said Michelle today.

“But, he warned them she could tire because of her lack of a recent 500 metre.

“But, she didn't.”

Michelle and Lee are not punters and not behind the sudden betting move on the bitch.

“I was looking at the prices while we were discussing the series and saw her tumble in,” said Michelle.

She said one of the biggest concerns was the bitch travelling so long from Bagshot to Wentworth Park a 10-hour trip.

“Lee brought her home and the next morning she was barking at 6.20am wanting to go,” said Michelle.

“She's gone a lot faster than we thought she would.”

MacKenna has won eight of her 10 starts to date.

“But,” cautioned Michelle. “There is a long way to go yet. She has to get through the semi-finals first.”
