Fast Times Set For Stud Stardom

RUGBY league legend Terry Hill is used to grabbing the spotlight and that has carried over into his love of greyhound racing.

His first great was Placard, winner of the Topgun, National Sprint and Queensland Derby. Terry learned to love greyhounds via his mateship with Hall of Famers Jim and Christine Coleman.

In recent times, Terry has started to tempt fate, giving his dogs names that some would not ever consider.

For Terry it has worked.

And therein is the story on Fast Times, the royally bred son of Barcia Bale and Group winning bitch Clockwise, that Terry raced to win two Group 1s and a number of other feature race victories, a track record on debut, and a Queensland greyhound of the year title.

No wonder Terry is proud of the dog.

Now Fast Times, one of the most appropriately named greyhounds ever, embarks on a stud career with Tony Wiseman at Sires On Ice, with expectations high that he will be just as great at his new trade.

Fast Times was one of the fastest dogs in the country during his racing career under the guidance of Tony Brett.

At a very young age he had already won the G1 Winter Cup at Albion Park and made the final of the G1 Maturity, only to be a late scratching with injury. He then added the G1 Brisbane Cup and became 2017 Queensland greyhound of the year.

He won the rich feature maiden series at Lismore upon debut, running the track record during the heats, ran second in the Richmond Riches and has been a finalist in the G2 Qld Derby.

He ran super-fast times wherever he raced, including 30.06 at Ipswich, the third fastest time ever.

He won in a near record 29.75 at Albion Park and in all started 33 times for 16 wins and four placings for $235,000 in stakes.

His sire Barcia Bale was a superstar on the track and is a leading sire.

He won the Group 1 Maturity and ran a Bulli track record when making his race debut. Graeme Bate regards him the fastest dog he trained.

At stud, Barcia Bale is the sire of such greats as Dyna Double One, bred identically to Fast Times, Aston Dee Bee, Million Dollar Chase winner Mystic Riot, Mepunga Blazer, Raw Ability, Champagne Sally, Shima Bar, Equanimity, Blue Sky Riot, Barooga Brett, Barcali … the list goes on and on and on.

Fast Times has a pedigree “to die for”.

His dam Clockwise (Magic Sprite-Elizabeth Royal) won the G3 Magic Maiden and was a finalist in the G1 Peter Mosman. Her litter brothers Royal Sprite and Triggsy were both G1 class and sister Being Good was a Gosford TR breaker.

Fast Times is from an unbroken damline of quality race bitches.

Second dam Elizabeth Royal was a Wenty winner and so was third dam Miss Journey.

Fourth dam Long Journey won eight races, fifth dam Mahogany Star won 10 while sixth dam Mahogany Bale won 17 races and was placed 33 times in 92 starts.

Fast Times is a virtual clone of champion Dyna Double One.

Their dams both carry Spiral Nikita, Curryhill Brute and they trace along their direct female line to sisters Scarlet Bale and Sarah Bale.

Dyna Double One won $1.1 million in stakes and was a multiple Group 1 winner and record breaker.

At stud he is the sire of stars Dyna Chancer, Double Gee, Federal Lilly, Cawbourne Krusty, Dam Slippery etc.

Fast Times will stand at stud alongside Dyna Double One at Sires On Ice and he has a powerful chance to succeed.

Being a son of Barcia Bale and in-bred to the Wheeler's famous foundation broodbitch Gail's Beauty, Fast Times will naturally be ripe for matings to those myriad of bitches with Wheeler bloodlines.

Daughters of Fernando Bale will be superb. Barcia Bale's genetic sister Searle Bale was mated to Fernando Bale to produce G1 Australian Cup winner Hecton Bale.

AND, Barcia Bale is out of Princess Bale whose litter brother Bartrim Bale is found in many pedigrees, especially those of his son Bekim Bale. Paul Wheeler has already successfully done this cross via his G1 star Dyna Chancer (by Dyna Double One).

In Dyna Chancer's pedigree, the littermates Princess Bale and Bartrim Bale appear 3×2. Thus, daughters of Bekim Bale and his brother Heston Bale also appear prospective mates for Fast Times.

Fast Times is line bred to Brett Lee 4×3 via sons and his damline carries a cross of Master Havoc a half-brother to Sobbing Sal the dam of Brett Lee.

DAUGHTERS of Brett Lee and bitches with his half-brother Big Daddy Cool in their pedigree should suit Fast Times. Daughters of Spring Gun appear ideal.

Magic Sprite (damsire of Fast Times) has a dam bred on the spiral Nikita/National Dingaan cross.

Reinforcement of both of these lines is proven. In fact, Magic Sprite has done very well when his progeny carry a double of Spiral Nikita.

Bombastic Shiraz, whose direct damline is the same as Magic Sprite, will also be a key to the success of Fast Times at stud.

And, a VERY interesting cross for Fast times could be to bitches with Elite State in their make-up. That's because Fast Times brings in a cross of Bella's Angel in his damline and she is from the famous Another Fool damline.

This is the direct damline of Elite State.

The fact the Carruthers' legend Rapid Journey is found along the direct damline of Fast Times means bitches by Nolen could be an interesting mate.

Long Journey, fourth dam of Fast Times, is hugely in-bred to Roses Are Golden the damline of both Rapid Journey and Nolen and Easter Egg winner Moreira.

Fast Times is yet another pride and joy for league legend Terry Hill. He never missed his Group 1 races, was there to enjoy the greyhound of the year title, and is now looking forward to his future stud career.

He has EVERY credential to make that a success too.
