Feral Franky's Thunderous Start At Stud

SUPERSTAR chaser Feral Franky is proving instantly as popular at stud as he was when a devastating racetrack performer for Forbes trainer Jack Smith.

SUPERSTAR Feral Franky is proving instantly as popular at stud as he was when a devastating racetrack performer.

The son of Collision-Solar Pak (by Mogambo) retired late in January after finishing second to King Cratos in the Group 1 Paws of Thunder after winning 24 races and $482,000 in stakes.

He won the Group 1 Vic Peters, Group 3 Xmas Gift, Flying Amy Classic, New Sensation and the Richmond Riches. He was second in the National Derby, Topgun, Paws of Thunder, Speed Star and third in the Maturity Classic and Gold Bullion.

Trainer and now studmaster Jack Smith says he has been desperately trying to juggle providing semen for broodbitches on season, clients wanting to buy straws, and requests from England, Ireland, New Zealand and even a call from the US.

“Among those who have bought semen for him are Paul Wheeler and Darren Puleio (of Hooked On Scotch fame), so there is great interest in him from the very best breeders,” said Jack.

“The first bitch he served was Fancy Lola and we have put our own bitch Irinka Lizzy to him. Lizzy made three Group finals including the Easter Egg.”

He said it was important for him to immediately look after those requests from owners of brood bitches on season.

“After all, he needs pups on the ground to get his stud career started,” said Jack.

“What has amazed me is how easily he has taken to his new position in life.

“But, that is the dog – everything he did was right. Some young stud dogs need to be trained in the new job, but not him. He was a natural.

“We have had a lot, a lot of inquiries to use him. It was very encouraging when the Wheeler family bought straws for him as well.”
