Gifted Brothers Set For Maiden Debut

THE appearance of brothers Zipping Sultan and Zipping Zeek highlights Wednesday's heats of the NSW Bred Maiden series (520m) at Wentworth Park.

THE appearance of highly touted debutants Zipping Sultan and Zipping Zeek highlights Wednesday night's four heats of the $10,000 to-the-winner NSW Bred Maiden series (520m) at Wentworth Park.

Trained by Jason Magri, fresh off a winning quartet at Bulli on Saturday, Zipping Sultan and Zipping Zeek are joined by litter-sister Zipping Mirandi in Wednesday night's heats, the trio burning up the tracks in preparation for their eagerly awaited debut.

"They're as quick a dogs as I've had, they've got huge motors but they're still very green and have a lot of learning to do," said a conservative Jason Magri in the lead up to Wednesday night's heats.

By Zulu Zeus out of grand producer Crafty Lady, the birds have been chirping about the exploits of the Hallinan-owned March ‘18 litter recently.

On November 30, Zipping Zeek set tongues wagging with a brilliant 26.04 Bulli performance trial effort, while a fortnight later Zipping Sultan recorded a flying 26.28, rubber-stamping their arrival as two of the hottest young chasers in training.

"I know he went slower at Bulli but Zipping Sultan's the quickest of the two in my opinion – he's got two tenths on the other dog in trials," said Magri.

"The first time I took him to Wenty he went 23.84 post-to-post which I almost couldn't believe. Out of the boxes first go he went 29.70. To do that his first go at his age tells you the motor he's got. But you still want to see them come out and do it in a race. Give him a dozen starts and then I'll tell you how good he is."

The second of Magri's debutants lines up in heat three with Zipping Zeek drawn box five.

"He went 23.89 at his second post-to-post and 29.90 out of the boxes," Magri said.

"There's eight in the litter and they are all going to win races. The bitch in the last heat Zipping Miranda (box eight) I really like as well. She trialled 30.10; she's very clean winded and I reckon she'll stay down the track."

Such is the promise being demonstrated by the litter, Martin Hallinan recently purchased a number of Zulu Zeus straws, the leading breeder enjoying huge success with the son of Where's Pedro at stud, led of course by the unbeaten Zipping Garth, which now stands at stud himself.

"He (Zulu Zeus) seems to really click with his line – when I told Marty some of the times these dogs were running he jumped on the phone and grabbed some straws," Magri offered.

"I'd say the brindle dog Zipping Kojak is the third best of them at the moment – he performance trialled 22.49 at Bulli on Saturday night. Zipping Carlos has won two from two and I really liked his win at Bulli on Saturday night.

"To be honest at the moment I can't fault them. The two dogs in on Wednesday have that bit of mongrel about them which you like to see. I can't put them out in a yard together at home … they both want to be that dominant male."

The emergence of the boom litter continues the success of dam Crafty Lady as well, her progeny, led by Zipping Falcon, Zipping Potter, Zipping Mitzy and Zipping Katelyn, already responsible for 120 race wins and $500,000 in prize money.

"They are like all young dogs, it's great that they are doing it in trials and running the times but it's when you see them tested up in grade a bit that you find out what you've got. But at the moment it's so far so good."
