Shima Shines Brightest In Gold Bullion Romp

SHIMA Shine surged past half a million in earnings with a commanding victory in the Group 1 Gold Bullion Final at Albion Park on Thursday night.

GIFTED Victorian sprinter Shima Shine surged past half a million in earnings with a commanding victory in the Group 1 Gold Bullion Final (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Proving a class above his opposition in the $150,000-to-the-winner finale, Shima Shine produced a stunning performance of sustained speed to claim the second group 1 title of his glittering career in a dashing 29.51.

Finishing a gutsy second two lengths away was Crazy Cool for Bob Jacobsen while Tommy Shelby stuck on for a gallant third a further 2 ½ lengths astern.

But there was no question as to the star of the show with Shima Shine cementing his status as Australia's number one sprinter with a breathtaking victory for trainer Andrea Dailly and owner Dave Gleeson.

"It's a massive thrill – he's a very special dog," said owner Dave Gleeson.

"He had a good break over Christmas which allowed us to iron out some issues and he's returned in fine order as his form suggests.

"It has been frustrating with his career being stop-start due to injuries but that happens with the fast ones, he just puts so much into his races.

"Hopefully now he is past all that and can enjoy an injury free 2021. If he does I think he is set for a big year.

"A big thank you to Greg Brennan who has steered the ship during his time in Queensland."

Shima Shine now returns home to Victoria where he'll join Tommy Shelby and Sentenced in preparing for the Group 1 Temlee (525m) at The Meadows on February 13.

Meanwhile, the supporting group 1 produced a thrilling finish with South Australian stayer Sir Truculent gripping on for victory in the Garrard's Gold Cup (710m).

In the hands of champion trainer Tony Brett for his Brisbane campaign, Sir Truculent staved off a fast finishing Sunset Bourbski to land the $75,000-the-winner feature by half-a-length in 41.70 for a proud Wally Harkins.

The victory handed Brett his second Gold Cup title having tasted success in 2009 with his former star racer Queen Lauryn.
