Goodwin's Gardens Blizzard Warning

NATHAN Goodwin hasn't decided if he was surprised or not with Angry Blizzard’s 29.38 winning effort at Ladbrokes Gardens on Saturday night.

KEMPSEY based Nathan Goodwin is yet to decide if he was surprised or not with Angry Blizzard's incredible 29.38 winning performance at Ladbrokes Gardens on Saturday night.

"I was and I wasn't … if that makes sense," explained Goodwin.

"The dog's shown he's got a big motor and he keeps improving but to run that sort of time … it probably was a bit of a shock.

"You usually only see those sorts of runs from the bigger kennels like Jason Mackay; not a bloke training out of Kempsey!"

Peeling off sizzling sectionals of 4.95s and 17.17s, Angry Blizzard's gob-smacking 7 ¾ length winning romp in 29.38 was the fifth win of his 16 start career.

Not two until next month, Angry Blizzard hails from the successful Dyna Double One x Angry Lightning which Goodwin trains the majority of for proud owner Chris Witt.

"There was no in-depth science about the mating but Chris is looking like a genius now!" Goodwin said.

"Chris really liked Dyna Double One as a race dog and was keen to breed a litter with Angry Lightning; she only won the one race and was nothing special, she was always more of a pet than a race dog.

"I trained Angry Lightning's brother Cobber In Motion and met Chris through that connection. ‘Cobber' is the best dog I've had until now, he won 14 races for me and made three group race finals."

While Angry Blizzard's sizzling victory at Ladbrokes Gardens on Saturday night has put the brindle flyer up in lights, the remainder of the litter continue to hold up their end of the bargain as well.

"The whole litter can run," Goodwin added.

"John Martin broke them in for us at Casino; the bitch in the litter Angry Hail broke in about six lengths faster than the next best, Angry Blizzard and Angry Tornado. I've had a lot of injuries with Angry Hail though but it wouldn't surprise me if she ends up being the best of all of them.

"You find a lot with Dyna Double One's they improve with a bit of time and I'm really finding that with this litter. I call them confidence dogs … that's why I'm bringing them along slowly through their grades."

Goodwin ventures to Gunnedah this Sunday with Angry Blizzard for fifth grade 431 metre heats before the Kempsey conditioner will toy with the idea of a step up to richer pickings.

"I said to someone yesterday that if he continues like he is it might be worthwhile looking at a Golden Easter Egg prelude with him," Goodwin said.

"He had a run at Wenty a few weeks ago but got a failing to chase ticket but that was my mistake. I hadn't trialled him there and if there's one main thing I've learnt about this litter it's that they need a look at a track.

"I took him to Maitland the next week to clear him over the 450 metres and thought he'd run around 25.30 … he went 24.90. Since he won a few at Wauchope over Christmas he's just gone to another level, hopefully it continues."

And while Goodwin is ecstatic with Angry Blizzard's thunderous Gardens victory at the weekend he's equally happy with the huge amount of rain Kempsey has received in recent days as part of the massive deluge that's hit all parts of NSW.

"They said there's been over 200 mils with more to come," said a delighted Goodwin.

"It's good to be able to look at the dogs laying out in the grass again rather than dirt. It's been great for our straight track as well; hopefully it continues for a bit more yet."
