Gosford Gold For Wow As Big 2021 Awaits

WOW has began what promises to be a huge 2021 with a rampaging victory in Sunday's Gosford Gold Cup Final for Karina Britton.

WOW-ee!

One gets the feeling that 2021 could be a big year for Wow.

And the immensely talented son of Fernando Bale has seen in the New Year in style with a powerhouse victory in Sunday night's Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup (515m).

Trained by Karina Britton, Wow roared into Sunday's $40,000-to-the-winner decider on the strength of his breathtaking track record breaking heat win a week earlier in 28.88.

It was a performance that demanded the Goulburn Cup winner would head to the boxes as a red hot favourite from box one – a draw that was either going to prove rocks or diamonds for the highly gifted galloper.

But continuing to show an always improving traceability in his races, Wow handled himself with aplomb for the 515 metre journey, finishing strongly late to defeat a fast finishing Incapacitated by 2 ½ lengths in 29.15.

Tear-away early leader Casual Glance ran a gallant race for trainer Michelle Lil finishing third, just a whisker behind the second placegetter on the line.

The Gosford Cup win extended Wow's record to 14 wins from 23 starts including victories at his past six, performances which have established the May 2018 whelp as one of the most exciting, and untapped, sprinters in the land.

Wow's Gosford Cup victory continues what has been a remarkable run of success from progeny of the Fernando Bale and She's All Class litter.

The seven offspring to race have won 52 of their 96 starts for over $300,000 in prizemoney at a winning strike-rate of 54 percent – truly amazing numbers.

Wow's tantalizing recent Gosford form has seen him rocket to the top of all-in betting for the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder which gets underway at Wentworth Park in just two weeks' time.

And with uncertainty surrounding the appearance of a number of leading interstate hopefuls due to coronavirus related border closures, there's no surprise Wow is firming in markets for the $75,000-to-the-winner group 1.

A big holiday crowd packed into Gosford on Sunday night to witness a fantastic card of racing.

In race five, Laurie's Flyer landed the Ladbrokes Red Dog (388m) event with a slashing 7 ½ length victory in 21.77, just a fraction outside Casual Glance's 21.74 track record.

Trained by John Miles, Laurie's Flyer is himself from a top-notch litter.

A son of Fernando Bale and Blue Thunda, Laurie's Flyer's Gosford win on Sunday was the litter's 99th victory from 199 starts for stake earnings of $205,000.

Laurie's Flyer is owned by long time Gosford Gold Cup sponsor Laurie Refalo who supports the race through Woy Woy Poultry Supplies.
