Greenoughs ‘Unleash' In Bendigo Gold Rush

THE Greenough family’s remarkable record in Bendigo’s Gold Rush Maiden is set to continue Sunday with near-record heat winner Unleash In Miami.

THE Greenough family's remarkable recent record in Bendigo's prestigious Gold Rush Maiden (425m) is set to continue on Sunday afternoon with near-record heat winner Unleash In Miami.

Trained by 26-year-old Brad Greenough, grandson of champion trainers Kel and Jackie Greenough, Unleash In Miami was a sensational debut winner last Sunday, clocking a blistering 23.42sec.

The April '22 son of KC And All and 2021 Gold Rush heroine She's Got Wheels was only two lengths outside multiple country cups winner Typhoon Sammy's 23.28sec track record.

FIELDS AND FORM FOR BENDIGO ON SUNDAY

Making his second foray into the training ranks, Brad Greenough will be chasing his first feature victory when Unleash In Miami exits box six in the $12,000 to-the-winner final.

"I've always been around the dogs and when I finished school I got straight into it," Brad explained.

"Then I had some time away, doing a landscaping apprenticeship, before deciding to get back into the greyhounds.

"Unleash In Miami had been trialling really well, but to come out and run what he did was a little bit of a surprise to us all.

"He'll run straight out of the boxes, so I think box six will suit him and hopefully he can knock it over!"

Unleash In Miami will start a warm favourite to give the Greenoughs a fourth Gold Rush victory, their previous winners being Mint Power (2010), She's Got Wheels (2021) and Aston Exceed (2022).

Chasing a Gold Rush hat-trick last year, the Greenoughs had the fastest heat winner in Blue Tick Nelson, which started favourite but could only finish seventh to future topliner Alpha Zulu.

Unleash In Miami's dam She's Got Wheels was undefeated through the then three-week Gold Rush series, clocking 23.51sec in the final.

Unfortunately, the superbly-bred daughter of Fernando Bale x Zara's Entity only raced once more before sustaining a career-ending stopper bone injury.

"It was really disappointing because I thought she was going to be a Group-type dog," Kel Greenough said.

"Unleash In Miami's heat win was an outstanding run for that distance.

"He has the right traits, but I'm a bit worried about his stamina. Hopefully, he'll get ‘500' down the track.

"His sectionals, his first and second splits, have always been very good. He was trialling the Best Of Day at Sandown at 19 months, so we decided to put him away for this race.

"I've always thought this is a great maiden, but I reckon it's still worth about the same money it was back when we won it the first time!"

As usual, Greenough's recall is spot on, with Mint Power claiming a $10,000 purse for taking out the event in 2010.

Greenough also provided an update on Big Energy ahead of his tilt at the fast-approaching Sandgroper at Cannington on April 18, where the Melbourne Cup runner-up will fill Mintbet's slot.

The Gold Rush silverware up for grabs on Sunday

Big Energy hasn't raced since contesting the G1 Temlee on February 10.

"He tore a muscle next to his triangle," Greenough explained.

"He's going really good and will race next week at Sandown and then I'm flying over to Perth with him."

Greenough also confirmed former champion Wow She's Fast is "definitely pregnant" following her hugely-anticipated first mating with US sire Bella Infrared.

"I think she's got about five weeks until she has her pups."
