G1 Spion Rose Cup Heats Highlights Hatrick Card

THE high-class Kiwi chasing action switches to Hatrick Raceway on Friday where five 520m heats at group 1 level, plus five group 2 heats over the 305m dash will be decided.

The heats for the 520m Spion Rose Cup (races 7-11) are chock-full of potential qualifiers for the following Friday's $45,000 final.

Included in the heats for the Spion Rose are recent New Zealand Cup minor place-getters, although trainers Dave and Jean Fahey have allowed Cup winner Rock On John to miss this series.

FIELDS AND FORM FOR HATRICK FRIDAY

"He's only a young dog which has other big races looming for him – he only raced in the Cup because Addington is his home track," advised Dave Fahey.

Last year's Spion Rose winner He's All Shine lines up in the first heat for Sam Lozell, returning him to 520m racing following bold short course sprints which includes his recent group 1 295m Galaxy Sprint second placing.

He must start smartly from his trap-eight draw.

Lisa Cole will be looking to advance Big Time Baby and Big Time Seth, while the Fahey's line-up All Consuming.

Craig Roberts has rapidly mentored He's Ali through the grades and he's seeking to maintain his four race unbeaten NZ record here.

Roberts has his dual group 1 winner Leonard Bale engaged in the next heat. He returned to form via his sound last start Addington 30.11s 520m win.

Big Time Izzy (1) and Bigtime Bruno (8) bookend the field for Cole, while Pretty Busy brings Addington 520m place form north with him for the Faheys.

Big Time Frankie secures the ace trap for Cole in the next heat after he scampered to his Tuesday 26.21s Manawatu 457m win while Bigtime Brody was a 23.21s Tuesday 410m winner.

The Daniel Lane prepared Ozzie endured a completely luckless outing in the NZ Cup – he's seeking some compensation in this event.

Our Rick treks down from the northern region with his trainer Emma Potts. He has produced sound previous 520m races here, while Oster Bale holds swooping claims from trap-eight for Roberts.

Big Time Harley and Big Time Lantao have drawn handily for Cole in the fourth heat. A pair of Zipping's hold claims here with Angela Turnwald lining up Zipping Sarah, while Roberts will present Zipping Sheldon for his track debut outing.

The Fahey's supply the NZ Cup third place getter Opawa Toddy in this heat.

Thrilling Izzy flew through his Manukau Sunday 527m assignment in a slick 29.99s for Karen Walsh and she adds real interest for her track debut in the final heat.

Her clash with the Cole prepared electric starter Bigtime Cooper looms as a series highlight after Cooper produced the quickest 520m first sectional ever seen at Hatrick last Friday.

Adding to the depth in this heat is the Fahey prepared NZ Cup runner-up Opawa Nat, while Uthor Bale can be expected to be sighted charging home late for Roberts.

Slick pace can be expected from the 305m sprinters during their heats for the group 2 $15,000 Dash For Cash sprints (races 2-6).

Last year's winner Trojan Hoarse is absolutely flying for Cole at the moment as seen by his current seven race winning streak, including the group 1 Galaxy Sprint (pictured). He highlights the first heat.

Last season's dual group 1 winner and runner-up here Buddy Boom (race 4) stylishly bounced back into winning form via his sharp 18.20s Manukau Sunday 318m win for his northern conditioners Jared Udy and Denise Cottam.
