Hallinan's Faith In Zipping Garth Only Heightening

WITH upwards of a few hundred greyhounds, premier breeder Marty Hallinan can pick and choose among the very, very best when it comes to breeding.

WITH upwards of a few hundred greyhounds on his Clergate property, premier breeder Marty Hallinan can pick and choose among the very, very best when it comes to breeding.

So, his reasoning for putting a number of his very best brood-bitches and race bitches to his own stud dog Zipping Garth is pretty simple.

“He was a serious dog,” said Marty.

“He went 30.09 at Richmond and then went 29.20 at The Gardens and his run home times were phenomenal.

“And he was only 22 months old when he did it.

“That's a serious race dog and even though we bred him and owned him, he deserved to be sent some nice bitches.”

Hallinan has certainly sent “some bitches” to Zipping Garth (Zulu Zeus-Zipping Abby), unbeaten in his only five race starts under the training of Jason Mackay.

“We've got pups from Tricky Rose and Zipping Meg and only two weeks ago put Zipping Willow to him,” said Marty.

Zipping Willow (Goodesy-Sirocco Lass) of course is the former star race bitch which has produced G1 Easter Egg winner Zipping Bailey (21 wins, $372,000), G1 National Futurity winner Zipping Veyron (15 wins, $112,000) and G1 Dapto Megastar winner Zipping Tayla (11 wins, $111,000) etc.

Zipping Willow's progeny have already won over 150 races and almost $1 million in prize money.

And Marty is seriously considering putting Zipping Bailey to Zipping Garth when she comes on season.

Jason Mackay is amazed at the fertility of Zipping Garth and the reports about his first pups, the oldest of which is just seven months.

“We have sold 115 vials of semen for the dog since he retired,” said Jason.

“All I am hearing about his pups is how keen they are and what great types they are.

“And, we had his semen tested just the other day and it registered 1.136 billion … you don't get any higher than that.”

Marty Hallinan is the first to admit successful greyhound breeding can be likened to a throw at the dart board, but putting such high class brood bitches and race bitches to Zipping Garth is virtually assuring him of success.

Recent whelpings for the dog include Miley Nismo (Barcia Bale-Oya Nine Wonwon) the runner-up in the G1 Peter Mosman and winner of 12 of her 26 starts for $52,000 in stakes.
