Injury Curtails Star Stayer's Racing Days

GROUP class stayer Collinda Lady has been retired after breaking a hock in the Victorian National Distance Final (715m) at Sandown last Thursday.

GROUP class stayer Collinda Lady has been retired after breaking a hock in the Victorian National Distance Final (715m) at Sandown last Thursday.

The daughter of Zambora Brockie and She's A Collinda retires as the winner of eight races from 22 starts and $68,695 in prizemoney.

"The best was still ahead of her I've got no doubt," trainer Jason Thompson said.

"The operation went well and she's recovering nicely and down the track she'll make a great mum.

"Between her and her sisters True Collinda and Collinda Patty she's the one with the temperament that you think will make a great brood.

"The owners have that to look forward to with her now."

With Collinda Lady's career coming to a premature close, her sister Collinda Patty is also set for another extended stint on the sidelines.

Winner of the Group 1 Queensland Cup (710m) at Albion Park three starts back, the 15-time winner of over $250,000 suffered a back muscle injury in a recent trial.

"Hopefully she comes back, it's not as bad as it could have been," Thompson said.

"It's just time now with her to see how it responds."

Adding to Thompson's injury woes is the shoulder injury to hugely exciting youngster Projector following a dazzling 24.75 Sale debut win recently.

Projector, a son of Bernardo and Sunset Believer, making him a full younger brother to Group 1 Hobart Thousand winner Aussie Secret, broke his shoulder in a catching pen incident post race.

"We are looking at about three months with him," Thompson said.

"He's very promising as are others in the litter."
