STAYING star and Queensland greyhound of the year hopeful Bago Bye Bye has injured ligaments in a hock and will be sidelined for up to two months.

Trainer Darren Russell said this on Sunday of the son of Barcia Bale-Keira's Charm.

“He hurt the same hock, the off-side, back in June last year that sidelined him for months,” said Russell.

“It will be at least six weeks and could be two months before he is back.

“It's not as bad as last time but still enough to force him off the track.”

Russell believes the spell could be a blessing.

Bago Bye Bye is a multiple Group 1 winner in his career of 44 starts for 23 wins and seven placings earning $262,000.

The dog resumed from his extended spell late last year and was luckless in the Topgun Stayers first up at The Meadows in November.

“The couple of runs he had in Melbourne during that trip flattened him a bit,” said Russell.

“He raced OK when he came home but eventually he picked up a bit of a kidney infection.

“This break will fix that, fix the ligament problem in the hock and he'll be right back to his best when he returns.”
