Injury Spells End To Black Comanche's Racing Career

STAR Queensland sprinter Black Comanche has broken a hock and his career is likely over.

Black Comanche was storming to the lead in a heat of the Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup (520m) on Thursday night when the injury occurred.

A devastated trainer Greg Stella rushed the dog to North Lakes vet clinic and he was operated on today.

“It is a slab fracture and, while no one can say for certain, it does seem his race career is over,” said Stella.

“It is highly unlikely he will get back to the track.”

Black Comanche (Zambora Brockie-Tahlia's Way) has been a boom youngster from the first time he set foot on the track.

“He trialled an incredible time as a pup over 431 metres,” said Stella.

Owner Peter Hare refused several huge offers by southern buyers for the dog.

He raced 33 times for 15 wins and 12 placings earning $71,000.

He won the Emerging Stars at Albion Park and was second on October 27 in the Rising Stars also at Albion Park.

At his second race start he ran a scorching 30.17 winning a semi-final of the G2 Vince Curry Maiden, and also won in 19.36 at Capalaba.
