Knight's Page Produces Gosford ‘Master' Class

KNIGHT'S Page has maintained his sublime Gosford record to win Tuesday night's regional final of the TAB Million Dollar Chase for trainer Gayle Masterson.

The all-the-way victory secures the son of Barcia Bale a berth in next month's TAB Million Dollar Chase semi-finals at Wentworth Park where he'll be joined by series placegettters Bland Purr and Vamos Penny.

A well backed $4.60 chance for Tuesday night's $6,000 to-the-winner final from box one, Knight's Page made full use of the ideal draw, his big hulking frame driving to the front through the early stages.

Turning for home the prolific winning sprinter was forced to shrug off a serious challenge from a lurking Rock Or Burst which at one stage appeared almost certain of victory.

But after coming together down the straight it was Knight's Page that came off best, scoring by 1 1/4 lengths over a fast finishing Bland Purr for Peter Spiteri, with Vamos Penny another length away in third for Kerry Drynan.

“I'm so proud of him,” beamed Masterson.

“It's been a battle to work him back to full fitness the past few months but he's back at his peak now and it's showing. He loves Gosford and box one was perfect for him but he still had to come out and do it. And he did.”

Knight's Page's winning time was a tidy 29.63, the victory extending his Gosford record to an enviable six starts for four wins and two seconds.

The stellar win also continued the great success Hexham based trainer Gayle Masterson has enjoyed at Gosford in recent years.

Back in 2016, her grand sprinter Knight Sprite won the Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup at the central coast circuit before returning a year later to finish second in the flagship event.

On Tuesday night it was Knight Sprite's close relation Knight's Page making a name for himself on the big stage, the 47 start veteran proving a more than capable galloper throughout his successful career.

And with the benefit of a month until the semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase, Masterson can begin plotting her assault on the lucrative event, safe in the knowledge her place in the next round is locked away.

If Knight's Page progresses to the big dance on October 16 and a crack at the $1 million prize, it's a night he knows only too well, finishing sixth behind Jet Jackson in the Young Star Classic Final (520m) on last year's night of nights.

“There's a nice race for him at Maitland on Monday night and after that I'll just keeping him ticking over until the semi-finals,” Masterson said.

“I'll give him one more run at Wenty before the sem-finals just so he can get used to the start there again.”
