Kooringa Lucy On Song For Middle Distance Clash

STAR bitch Kooringa Lucy is back with Selena Zammit in Queensland with the uncertainty of Covid surrounding her immediate campaign.

STAR Northern Rivers bitch Kooringa Lucy is back in the Selena Zammit kennel in Queensland with the uncertainty of Covid surrounding her immediate campaign.

"She has been with us for her past couple of runs because of the uncertainty about the borders closing," said Selena's husband, self confessed kennel media manager Mick Zammit on Wednesday.

Kooringa Lucy (Fernando Bale-Mitcharlie Mia) steps back up to 600m racing at Albion Park on Thursday night and has drawn box seven in a 5th grade.

She comes up against star sprinter, multiple Group winner and Group 1 Golden Easter Egg finalist Farmor Beach, drawn the two box and making his 600 metre debut.

“Mitch (Northfield) sent her up to us for the Brisbane Cup heats and then she won the Free For All last week in a super 29.56,” Mick said.

“We have stepped her back up to 600 metres with the possibility of her going 700 metres in the future.

“But we also have to be well aware that the Million Dollar Chase is supposed to be coming up soon as well.

“Yet the way Covid is going at the moment and the uncertainty about borders … who knows what will happen.”

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY

Zammit is supremely confident Kooringa Lucy can win on Thursday night.

“I was surprised to see Farmor Beach in the race,” he said.

“While he has not started over 600 metres, I'm pretty sure the Scotts would have trialled him in preparation for this race.”

Kooringa Lucy has started four times over 600m at Albion Park for three wins and has a career best of 34.66.

Her overall career record is 54 starts for 22 wins and 15 placings earning $135,000.

The Zammits Group 1 Brisbane Cup runner-up, Music Event, has drawn box eight in a Best 8 on Thursday night and his stay in Queensland also depends on what happens with state borders.

The Million Dollar Chase is also a target for the dog.
