Kyrgios Finds Form In Megastar Heat Romp

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

That's the best way to describe the mesmerising victory by Zipping Kyrgios in the first heat of the Group 1 Sportsbet Megastar (520m) at Dapto on Thursday night.

Going into the $75,000-to-the-winner series following three consecutive missed placings, Zipping Kyrgios made a one act affair of his heat to record a spectacular 29.40 in an eight-length trouncing.

The time was just a length outside Fantastic Dotty's 29.34 track record set back in 2015.

"He went super – great," Minnie Finn told GRNSW's Tim Newbold post race.

"He trialled well at the track coming into this and went as good as we thought he'd go tonight.

"After his last start at Wenty we decided to trial him here to make sure there was nothing wrong with him. We can't put that last run down to anything, it was just unlike him.

"He's always seemed to like Dapto, as a pup he was as quick as any young dog we'd put around here."

While Zipping Kyrgios is by far the fastest qualifier in his quest for a breakthrough group 1 the son of Aussie Infrared will need to do so from box six.

The second heat went the way of Light and Lily for Jordan Tweddle in 29.74.

Winner of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal at Wentworth Park in October, Light and Lily gunned down Marvin's Girl in the latter stages to roar into another group 1 decider.

Tachycardic landed the third heat for a jubilant Kayla-jane Coleman in 29.82.

A son of Collision and Coleman's former top chaser Cardiology, Tachycardic has risen from relative obscurity to reach next Thursday's rich decider.

Closing out the heats was the powerhouse performance by Sound Of Silence in 29.82.

The all-distance dynamo defeated Ritza Donna by 2 ½ lengths and is on track to deliver trainer Frank Hurst a second Megastar triumph after winning the race in 2019 with his grand chaser Good Odds Harada.

Thursday night's Megastar heats were rocked by the race morning scratching of series favourite Bandit Ned with trainer Andy Lord forced to withdraw his three runners due to a bad batch of meat causing illness.
