After dominating the Gr8 Eight series Last Hurrah and trainer Brett Nye now target this Thursday's McKenna Memorial heats.

Last Hurrah has excelled of late over the middle-distance and couldn't be entering the series in better form. He claimed three Gr8 Eights with last Thursday night's win arguably the most impressive of them.

He'll step from box seven in heat two of the McKenna and is against Rockstar Beav who started favourite in May's RSN Sandown Cup.

"It's obviously a good field being a group 2 heat. He's fit and healthy and as long as he gets around safely I'll be happy," said trainer Brett Nye.

FIELDS AND FORM FOR SANDOWN PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

"I would've liked an inside draw but in saying that he's had a lot of them lately so I'm not too disappointed."

The ultra professional True Detective headlines the opening heat and has drawn favourably in box 1. The dangers include Weblec Ace who is hitting his straps plus New South Wales' Highly Effective who had his first look at Sandown Park in a trial last week.

Interestingly explosive sprinter Christo Bale steps up to 595m for the first time in the final heat. Here's Tears also features who returned to the winners list on Saturday night at The Meadows with a comfortable win.

With three heats it means winners, runner-ups and the two fastest thirds will advance to next Thursday's final.

Outside of the McKenna heats we look forward to a strong Free-For-All for the sprinters. It's headlined by heavyweights Jax Bale and Jim Zarr Dashian in what is a competitive field.
