WYNBURN Lily heads into Monday night's Tasmanian Breeders Classic Final (515m) as the one to beat after recording a brilliant semi-final victory at Launceston last week.

Stepping well from box eight, the daughter of Barcia Bale and Miss Hetti sat second behind Stylish Paddy down the back straight before finding the front turning for home turn, kicking clear to win by 7 ½ lengths in a smart 30.12.

Trained by Wynyard-based Ben Englund, the black bitch was the quickest of three semi-final winners last week – the other qualifiers won by Highland Vintage (David Crosswell) in 30.23 and Flash Comet (Ricky Martin) in 30.57.

Englund was pleased with Wynburn Lily's performance, declaring that we are yet to see what the exciting youngster is truly capable of.

"Lily is a very nice chaser – she is still young and learning her craft," Englund told the Recorder.

"Wynburn Willow and Wynburn Lily are two completely different greyhounds. I though Willow was stiff not to make it through – they both have real talent and I'm excited about what's ahead.

"Wynburn Lily is a very strong bitch and box eight isn't the greatest draw at Launceston, I was very happy how she handled herself in her semi-final."

Wynburn Lilly has won three of her seven starts, debuting in the heats of the Maiden Thousand at Hobart earlier this year.

"She (Wynburn Lily) was at the bottom of the pecking order early days in the litter but over time has grown with age and experience and has really started to put it together," detailed Ben.

"I think the further they go in distance the better they'll get."

Owned by the Wynburn Racing Syndicate, Wynburn Lily will have to overcome box four to win Monday's $5,050 to-the-winner feature.

Early market's see Wynburn Lily $2.60 favourite ahead of Highland Vintage next best at $2.90.

The Englund Family will be out to claim a third Launceston Breeders Classic in four years following the wins of Wynburn Toozie in 2016 and Wynburn Rush in 2014.

"I'd say Wynburn Lily would need to begin on terms with the field and be right up there in the first four to be a chance, if she strikes trouble Highland Vintage (box two) might be off and gone."

The Tasmanian Breeders Classic is race six at Launceston on Monday night and will jump at 9.18pm.
