Lucy The Best Of Northfield's Maiden Trio

MITCH Northfield rates Kooringa Lucy the best of his three chances in Friday's Pop Northfield Maiden Final (411m) at Casino.

AS Casino club president Mitch Northfield walks to the boxes with Kooringa Lucy for Friday's time-honoured Pop Northfield Maiden final (411m), he admits there will be a good degree of pressure on him.

That's because Mitch is the only member of the Northfield family not to train the winner of the Pop Northfield Maiden, the race named in honour of the patriarch of the Northfield family on the Northern Rivers of NSW.

Mitch has been president of the Casino Club for more than a decade and rates Kooringa Lucy a great chance of winning.

She is one of three pups Mitch kept from the litter he bred by Fernando Bale from his grand group race winning bitch Mitcharlie Mia.

“She's the best of my three,” said Mitch.

“And she has a good chance of winning the final. The wide draw will not be a worry but she will still have to come out running to put herself into the race.”

Kooringa Lucy is the first runner from Mitcharlie Mia to hit the racetrack.

The bitch was impressive winning her heat last week in 23.14 leading throughout off box five.

It was just outside the time standard run by Reg Gardoll's Profit Plan (Magic Sprite-Kingsbrae Missy) of 23.99.

Mitch says Profit Plan is the one to beat in the final after drawing the two box in Friday's final. He had come out of box four in his heat win.

Reg Gardoll has two finalists, the other is Pass The Banjo (Banjo Boy-Kingsbrae Nelly) who chased home Kooringa Lucy in the heats.
