Major Prizemoney Boost For Coonamble Carnival

THE fast approaching Ladbrokes Coonamble Carnival has received a further boost with GRNSW affording the Friday night TAB prizemoney status.

THE fast approaching Ladbrokes Coonamble Carnival over the October long weekend has received a further boost with Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) affording the Friday night program TAB prizemoney status.

With the famous four-day carnival in October cruelled the past two years due to Covid, the Coonamble GRC have left no stone unturned in ensuring the 2022 carnival returns bigger and better than ever.

Led by major sponsors Ladbrokes and Garrard's Horse and Hound, the carnival launches on Friday, September 30 followed by a bumper day of racing on Saturday, October 1 before a huge day of finals action on Monday, October 3.

And news that GRNSW have thrown their weight behind the Friday night meeting with TAB level prizemoney only makes the four-day racing extravaganza even more appealing to travelling owners and trainers.

"The Coonamble carnival is an iconic event on the greyhound racing calendar, which each year gives our participants the chance to come together and not only race, but celebrate the industry," said GRNSW Deputy CEO Wayne Billett.

"We also believe it is a critical piece in the calendar, and needs to be treated that way, and being able to increase prizemoney for the Friday night meeting to TAB provincial status is justification of that.

"The Coonamble Carnival should be on the bucket list of all greyhound fans, and while it was great that after a couple of Covid-impacted cancellations in the past two years, the Carnival was able to be held in January this year, it will be tremendous to see the event back in its traditional October slot in 2022."

With record prizemoney on offer and a number of exciting promotions soon to be announced, the countdown to the Coonamble Carnival is well and truly on.

The track is in pristine condition with the committee working feverishly to ensure it is in its best ever shape when the carnival rolls around in eight weeks time.

"I've never seen it so good," said Coonamble GRC president Graham Pickering.

"An enormous amount of work has gone into the track and that will continue right through to the start of the carnival.

"I can promise participants it will be in the best shape it's been."
