MILLION Dollar Chase consolation winner Nangar Jack has returned a positive swab to recombinant human erythropoietin, otherwise known as EPO.

On Thursday, the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commision (GWIC) moved to suspend the licence of trainer Tim Caines pending the finalisation of an inquiry from an out of competition swab that was taken in the lead up to the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals at Wentworth Park on October 11.

Nangar Jack finished runner-up to Good Odds Harada in his Million Dollar Chase semi-final before going on to take out the $25,000 to-the-winner series consolation seven days later, carving out 29.73 in an all-the-way box eight victory.

“The positive swab relates to a sample taken from Nangar Jack, trained by Mr Caines as part of the Commission's Welfare and Integrity program relating to the Million Dollar Chase series,” the statement read.

“This substance is permanently banned under the Rules of Racing.

“In accordance with disciplinary processes Mr Caines has been given until 9 December 2019 to provide submissions to the Commission. As the matter is ongoing the Commission will not be making any further comment on this matter.”
