Mepunga Blazer Receives Ultimate Accolade

SUCCESSFUL young stud dog Mepunga Blazer has enjoyed a sensational start to his stud career.

And that fantastic beginning was acknowledged by receiving the 2020 Victorian Bred Metropolitan Stud Dog of The Year Award at the Victorian GOTBA awards night last Thursday.

Continuing to prove hugely popular with breeders, Mepunga Blazer progeny amassed 348 winners in 2020 at a strike-rate of just under 20 per cent with stake earnings in excess of $1 million.

"We're very proud to receive the award and for how he's kicked off at stud," said studmaster Angela Langton.

"To see the breeders that put their faith in him as an unproven stud dog getting the results they are is fantastic.

"We couldn't have asked for a better start with him."

From next week Mepunga Blazer's stud fee will climb to $3,300, the increase recognising his tantalizing first 18 months at stud.

Leading Mepunga Blazer's early offspring is WA sensation Sunset Spitfire, winner at 13 of his 14 starts for trainer Dave Hobby.

The freakish talent can run track records for fun and at his first look at The Meadows in December trialled a sizzling 29.52.

Another exciting prospect coming through the grades is Shima Classic which after just 16 starts has won on eight occasions and qualified for the Group 1 Australian Cup and Group 2 Ballarat Cup.
