National Greyhound Of The Year Awards This Sunday

GREYHOUND Clubs Australia (GCA) will present its National Greyhound of the Year Awards for the 2019/20 racing season via Facebook this Sunday night.

GREYHOUND Clubs Australia (GCA) will present its National Greyhound of the Year Awards for the 2019/20 racing season via Facebook this Sunday night.

With the 2020 National Championship Grand Finals going by the wayside due to COVID-19, Greyhound Clubs Australia has moved their coveted annual awards to the virtual world, with a presentation to unveil the winners from 8pm (AESTD) this Sunday.

"We've themed the evening ‘A Night At The Museum of Stars'," beamed GCA chief David Simonette.

"It will be a Gala Awards evening like no other and we're really happy with how it's all come together.

"I promise there won't be any long boring speeches or anybody trying to pinch your bread roll.

"What I can guarantee is a unique-styled presentation that will pay tribute to our industry's highest achievers for the 2019/20 season.

"The unprecedented times caused by COVID-19 has seen participants and clubs in all states and territories doing it pretty tough and I think a virtual awards night where everyone is welcome will provide some level of escape."

Awards to be presented include Sire of the Year, Dam of the Year, Run of the Year, Trainer of the Year and the coveted GCA Greyhound of the Year.

And for the second year, the Denise Fysh award will be presented, recognising outstanding achievement in the industry.

"The winners of each award are all very deserving and with four of the six awards remaining unknown until Sunday night there is a sense of anticipation and element of surprise attached," Simonette added.

"Access to the GCA Gala Awards for 2019/20 is via the Greyhound Clubs Australia Facebook page where a link to YouTube will be made available."

There will be no GCA Hall of Fame inductions this year but will commence when the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association hosts next year's National Championships.
